Remote use

Now that I have my new Flex 6400 that I can easily remote into, I was wondering if there's anything in the works for remote use of the LA-1K ?

I guess not.

Apparently can be done. Worked a Colorado ham recently, he was running his LA-1K remotely

using TRX Manager software.

Please do. I'm on the website now. Sounds too good to be true.

Guys:

What would you want it to do? The amp already does a pretty good job of band selection if you don't have a radio that will work with the band selection inputs. The only other thing would be to enable/disable the amp, and I don't think there's a way to do that other than to enable or disable the PTT line going to the amp. With RS-BA1 you can of course control TX power so you don't really need to switch the amp in/out.

Personally, I'd like to see more communication with the amp so you can get data to and from it. Perhaps some menu control and enable could be one of those. But I'm a hard-core geek and just like gobs of data displayed for me to gawk at.

The big thing would be the ability to put the amp in standby so you can use the antenna tuner. The ability to power on and off would be a bonus as well.

BJN:

I admit that was one of the first things I went looking for -- to have the amp go into bypass whenever my HF-AUTO tuner was tuning.? I looked at doing that using the tuner interface on my Icom radio and making up a circuit to interrupt the PTT line when tuning, which I could have done.

Then I looked at the HF Auto App and learned how to program it for all bands and desired antenna selection and never looked back. I'm been using it with N1MM for a while now. Other than N1MM not being my absolute favorite program for general logging, it does talk to all of my equipment now, one way or another and I'm pretty happy with it all.

Of course if you have antenna conditions that can change a bit, you'll need to have the tuner to come up with a new tuning solution occasionally.

well, I got a quick reply to my email if the software works with the LA-1K. They said "absolutely, and it works well", it's going to be released this week. They even offered to send me a test version !

Thanks for the heads up on this Mike !

I wish we had a small box like the HF-AUTO-R to control the amp features...

as there is no official support on this and the TRX manager software is rather difficult, after the warranty period is over, I have the following idea to try.

use a solenoid push type actuator to push a stylus pen which can toggle between standby and operate mode.

of course the solenoid push force has to be gentle enough not to damage the touch screen and some sort of mounting is needed to properly align it to the OPR/STBY portion of the screen.?

see this for the solenoid linear action...
