Now: Enhancement request to enforce 30m/60m power limits Was Re: NOT MANY POSTS
Don't take this the wrong way Ray, but given the response is you shouldn't be using the LA-1K at all on those bands due to legal limits - 100W on 60m and 200W on 30m - I don't see any value of your request asking them to resolve it.??

OTOH, I think it makes sense that Palstar blocked 11m amplification - this is the responsible thing to do - and eliminates an entire market/sale to a "target audience of abuse" by hams and CBers alike who push illegal power on that band. Following the same logic, vehicle manufacturers should set hard speed limits on cars so that you can't travel above the speed limit ever, as well. Just like I don't think vehicle makers should own responsible driving, I don't think Palstar should own enforcing hams knowing the rules and obeying them. As a group of device owners, let's try to keep our requests to the manufacturer to things that matter and resolve usability issues. So thanks for raising awareness, but no thanks on your suggested amp behavior enhancement. -------------- David AF6HO On Sun, Apr 21, 2024 at 02:37 AM, tuneupmagic (null) wrote:

Not all countries have those same power restrictions.?? Lol.. Forget about the LA-1K, I use my Elecraft KX2 as a QRP exciter to operate on 5346.5 kHz USB with my Elecraft KPA1500 set to Band 5; staying well within the permissible 100W PEP ERP limit.? Oh btw, the integrated ATU of the KPA1500 even provides VSWR matching for my experimental 60M antenna, last year. In terms of you not seeing any value of my request asking Palstar to resolve the issues, I'd suggest you contact Mark Ward?(Palstar's technician) directly so Mr. Ward can share with you why he thought my request's a valid one.? I'm just guessing now.. Palstar might have some challenges hiring and keeping talented STEM personnel after the COVID-19 pandemic to address various LA-1K issues in a timely manner. In terms of you saying "I don't think vehicle makers should own responsible driving" I sure hope Mercedes' "DRIVE PILOT" operating under their stated conditions/environments would own responsible driving as a certified SAE Level 3 system for the U.S. market; please go to for details provided by said vehicle maker. 73 Ray KJ5MI |

Oh btw, the integrated ATU of the KPA1500 even provides VSWR matching for my experimental 60M antenna, last year. That's nice, but the LA-1K design doesn't lend itself to work with low power radios, as it requires more than QRP excitement to meet it's threshold.? I ran it at lower powers for some antenna configurations, but even at 5W drive you'd violate the 100W limit. I think 5W in ends up with ~150W+ out, and because of that you also would have very limited control to get it close to 200W without overrunning.? Also the LDMOS control voltage is fixed (Vd) at 50V, so you end up just wasting a bunch of input power, turned to heat, at the same time.? It's just not designed for this. I do appreciate Mark, he's a great guy, he's intercepted many grouchy responses from Paul and turned them into positive outcomes. I do appreciate Mark, he's a great guy, he's intercepted many grouchy responses from Paul and turned them into positive outcomes.David, AF6HO, Just to recap, in your post /g/la1k/message/1513 you stated "Don't take this the wrong way Ray, but given the response is you shouldn't be using the LA-1K at all on those bands due to legal limits - 100W on 60m and 200W on 30m - I don't see any value of your request asking them to resolve it." and then you chose not to bug those guys, as I'd suggested in my post /g/la1k/message/1515, to learn why Mr. Mark Ward (Palstar's technician) thought my request's a valid one. And now we have, Stephan's, N7QDZ, post /g/la1k/message/1516 pointing out in part, "It would be very helpful to have a 60-meter selection on the amp."? So, David, AF6HO, I hope you will eventually truly understand the value of my request as seen in my 7-Jun-2023 post /g/la1k/message/1316. 73 Ray KJ5MI |

开云体育To be clear, we do follow the power limits on the 60-M channels. However, on occasion (not often) ?MARS has permission to exceed the power limits for certain Exercises. In addition , we have several frequencies on that band in MARS that are not part of the designated 60-meter frequencies. ? SB N7QDZ ?
