Morgan systems M303 coaxial surge suppressors used with the LA1k amp

I am buying a LA1K used amp this coming week and for lightning protection outside the house I have tow coaxial lines that each have a Morgan System M303 arrestor in line before the coax comes into the room. Bot ate mounted to a copper plate and also grounded with "6 wire to 8 ft ground rods. I was wondering if anyone had any experience using these arrestors where a SS amp might have issue passing a signal threw them cause the have a choke system inside that bleeds some of the static to ground and therefore just maybe that would create an issue with SS finals.
I live in Florida and these arrestors have been working fine with an Acom 1000 for three years, I used the Alpha Delta ones before but they seemed to have issues with the weather down here with varying SWR at times but once I installed the Morgan systems jobs no issues. They are very similar to the Array Solution jobs and the original design was taken from the I.C.E company that is no longer. Any input would be great, TNX.

Hi James,

I read your note concerning the LA1K with interest since I have a LA1k that I am not using.? I have several Alpha Delta surge suppressor units in the coax between my HEX beam antenna and the amp.? I have never had a problem with the AD units and they have been in service for ten years or so.? I too liked the ICE units and am sorry that they are no longer available.

I have been thinking about selling my LA1K but never have gotten past this point.? My unit is like new condition with only SSB phone use.? I wonder if you would tell me what I should ask for my used LA1K.? Thank you.??

I am not sure what to tell you as far as price, I have seen them for sale at between $2700 to $2900 for being in excellent condition and under two years old. Maybe an older amp may not fetch as much but looking at ad's on QRZ that seems to be around the asking price range with maybe $2800 being middle ground. Many may say why should they buy a used LA1K over a new Mercury IIIs and that is a simple answer, you gotta get on a list for a year unless you wanna pay higher than list for some who act like ticket scalpers and charge way over list. They are both good amps but the Mercury IIIS is unattainable as far as buying new off the shelf? plus even two to three year old amps that were kit form are going for around $2800.?

Hi James,

I have been on the list of?KM3KM Electronics LLC since 1/17/2023 for a copy of their "mercuryIIIS Full Assembled + Full Warranty" currently priced at $2,799 + Shipping.? You are right, still no words from KM3KM as of this writing.. but, being priced at practically 25% less than the LA-1K ($3,695.95 on palstar.com) I would consider selling the inferior LA-1K, that I bought brand new from Palstar in late January 2023, to purchase a brand new mercuryIIIS as my replacement backup amp.

Btw feel free to check out my many postings in this LA-1K forum, or visit my QRZ page for some highlights of the same, to see why I consider the LA-1K amp as inferior at best.

Last but not least, in this post /g/la1k/message/1182 I touched on some cost/benefit factors relative to the LA-1K,?HF-AUTO, and the Elecraft KPA1500 that I acquired in late April 2023 before their price increase!

Hi James,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on an asking price for the Pal Star LA-1k solid state HF amplifier.? I would like to find a new home for mine.? I checked with HRO and found that they no longer take consignment items.? My friend Mike N1VE has encouraged me to list my amp on Facebook Marketplace and note that I will deliver it within a 75 mile radius of Concord, NH.? I do not look forward to shipping the amp.

Do you mind another question?? Did the previous owner of the LA1K that you bought offer any warranty?? My LA1K works fine, but I am hesitant to guaranty the unit since it may be purchased by a ham who has little or no experience with solid state?
amps and may make connections that damage the amp, then claim that the unit was not working properly when it was received.

Thanks in advance, your info is very helpful.

I just purchased a lightly used but 3-4 year old LA-1K for $2000 and am very pleased.? I updated the firmware to the latest just yesterday.
You can post it for sale on either ?or .? Both are great sites that I have used to sell and buy from.
