Re: Amplifier Relay Needed?

Chris . . .

Sounds to me like your dealer is wanting to make a sale!? (And more power to him, ham stores need to succeed).

Assuming CW . . .

If you operate the LA-1K as directed in the manual, in SEMI-BREAK-IN mode, with sufficient transceiver delay that holds the amp's relays closed throughout your keying sequence, then you will not need any additional device between the rig and amp (for safety or otherwise).

If however, you want to run full QSK with the LA-1K, then you will need a keying relay that not only keeps the LA-1K relays closed throughout the keying sequence, but also allows you to hear in-between characters.? There are only a few on the market, but the one I previously used successfully with my Quadra, and now use with the LA-1K is the DX CONNECTION QSK-2500 ().

I have a new LA1K and i get different opinions on whether a Amp Relay (Ameritron ARB -704) is needed to be run between the Icom 7600 and my LA1K. I didn't think so but the dealer said it just adds safety. Opinions? TIA..
