Komkit,
As far as the discussions I have had with Paul at Palstar (Paul and
Eva have been dear friends for many years, sadly I will miss having
dinner with them at Dayton because at 85 the trip has gotten to be?
a bit much for me). OK the personal stuff aside.
The LA-1K is
NOT a QSK amp so in CW one must insert
delay between the dits and dahs otherwise the relay will damage
itself in the radio. On the Yaesu FTdx5000 it is set when in the CW
mode by advancing the VOX delay control. This does NOT mean you are
using VOX in SSB. It will only have this effect in CW. That is how
the 5K handles it. Check your 991 manual and it should address this,
it should be the same. If you have any questions drop me a personal
email and i will call you on your phone. Email me at n4fn "at"
(replace the "at" with @ )

Neil? N4FN....BTW typically modern rigs do not use ALC feedback, but

Neil,
The call here is
W3KIT, sorry about not posting it down. Thank you for the reply.
At any rate, very
good to hear that I don’t actually need the ALC cable.?? I am not an avid CW
operator, I do when I see some station I need or perhaps during
some contests.? Otherwise
pretty much SSB or some Digital mode.? For Digital mode I am not worry about it,
maybe I went up to 100 watts only a few times. ?Beside, I do have another
dedicated FT-991A for Digital mode that is not hook up to this
linear.
Where do you set
the TX delay on the FTDX-5000??
What does the menu call??
Maybe similar to 991A.
On SSB,? I am not using VOX just
the good old PTT button on my MD-100 desk mic.? However I may be using
the linear up to 250-300 watts next time I get on RTTY.
I could not
really find any info about the TX delay much at all.? The document is saying
very little.? I got the
amp late Friday day, I call Palstar and left the voice mail.? I have not yet speak to
any one,? I guess it
was Friday and getting close to their cutting off time.
I do not know if
the TX delay is apply to every mode this linear support or just
CW, may be RTTY or Digital.
