Module disappears after editing 8
Hi, All the following observations pertain to PCBnew 1. It seems module names may not contain spaces! If one does, it has disastrous consequences like the module vanishing into thin air instead of being saved. I created a footprint for a 16x2 LCD, and named it LCD 16x2 small, when (i realise now) I should have named it LCD_16x2_small. I saved it, and when I tried to retrieve it again, Kicad complained it couldnt find it, though it is seen in the module list of my library. This bug needs to fixed/ documented. 2. In the module editor, when one changes the position of the anchor, the module temporarily disappears from view. One has to zoom out quite a bit to get it into view again, then zoom in to resume work. This happens especially when the zoom level is high. 3. While positioning the cursor, and moving it with the keyboard, with a low zoom, the resolution is not good, but in high zoom, the resolution is better. Is this intentional? The zoom value should have nothing to do with the cursor step resolution. While placing lines etc, one watches the x,y coordinates, irrespective of the zoom level. 4. On the bottom status bar, the x,y coordinates of the cursor are shown twice. why is this so? Thanks, --Royce

EESchema "Page Settings" "Page Size: A4 - Portrait"
Hi, Mr. Charras Please, is it possible to use A4-Portrait Format? Id like to set up the page to Size A4 - Portrait but I dint find it (Page Settiens Window). Then, I set up the Size User (X: 279.40mm - Y: 406.40mm) and on the screen worked ok. But, when I closed e opened the file again the Size User returned X:406.40mm - Y:279,40mm. I tried to change the file .SCH $Descr User 10999 15999 but nothing. Thanks!! Your Kicad project is very good and the better one. Renato Promoo Yahoo! Orcad to eeschema converter? 2
Hi. I was looking for a way to expand the Kicad libs adn I found this text about converting Orcad to eeschema. This seens to be a little old but it really can convert all Orcad libs to be used on Kicad? If so, why isn't have been done yet? We would end up with a huge library. I don't have access to Orcad but I'll surelly will try to find one if this is really possible. []s Adilson.

copper fill connect to net 4
Hello List, I started using Kicad a few weeks ago and it seems a good program with very high potential. Very good work mr Charras. Befor I used an older comercial product, ultiboard but this had some bugs and the never fixed these by now the are selling a new version which is way to expensive. Therefeore I switched to Eagle which I think is also very good. But I needed a larger board than was posible with the free version. I was just about to buy a licence when by acident I stumbeld upon Kicad. I had to get used to some differences in workflow and think with some actions one has to click to much. But maybe this will improve in the future. Anyway my current question is how can I connect a copper fill to a net so it will not keep clear of the tracks from the same net but run throug them? I could not find anything about this in the help file, but maybe I overlooked. Thanks for any help. Arjan Bok

Fill zone fix
Hello List, I have posted the relevant files in the "F4EXB" folder in the files section. This fix makes nicer contours for the fill zone, at least that's what I think, let me (and the List) know what you think. Cheers, Edouard.

EAGLE to KiCAD
R. Michael Sharkey escreveu: Hi. It actually does a very nice job indeed. I did some quick tests here and the results are great. Now, if we found a way to do the same with the component symbols as well, I would take the responsability of converting the whole Eagle colection. []s Adilson.

Grid Change in Eeschema Library Editor 3
Hello Everyone, I am new here and I am very glad that Mr. Charras and his supporters created this very good Open Source Program. So far is the best open source electronic design program I have seen. Thanks so much. I have a question for creating symbols on Eeschema. I am trying to modify some symbols for some libraries I am creating and I have not found the way to change the grid to be smaller once I am inside the Library Editor. I can change the grid when I am makig the schematic, but is it possible to change the grid inside Library Editor? If someone can help me I will really appreciate it. Best regards, Eduardo Bonilla

Fill zone angle 10
Hi, I tried to create a zone which I fill with copper pour. It work good except when there are 45 deg. angles, where the pour appear as stair steps. I was able to modify it in the gerber by adding a diagonal line, but maybe there is an option in Pcbnew to fill the pattern. I ask this because for high frequency transmission line (PCB coplanar waveguide) the calculation of the impedence rely on these gaps between the signal trace and the ground plane. Is anybody aware about such feature? Merci beaucoup Mr. Charras pour tout le travail que vous partag si gnreusement.

Freeleds Board 9
Hi, I have design a very simple board, with only 1 layer. This is what I call the "hello world Board". The website is in spanish, but you can see the pictures: http://www.iearobotics.com/personal/juan/proyectos/freeleds/index.html This board is free (as in freedom) hardware and It was designed using the Kicad software (a free software). So, its a free hardware board designed with free software :-) We wanted to learn how to use the kicad and to test if the gerber files generated by kicad could be understand by our manufacturers. As you can see, there were no problems :-) . We have manufactured 55 units Regards, Juan -- Juan González Gómez juan@... www.iearobotics.com -------------------------------------------------------------- - Yo también quiero una Europa libre de Patentes de Software - -------------------------------------------------------------- EuropeSwPatentFree - http://EuropeSwPatentFree.hispalinux.es --------------------------------------------------------------

3D Modeling Help
Like many others, I'm very new to Ki-Cad. So far it is impressive with what you can do despite its limits and bugs. Where I'm having the most difficulty is with the 3D image editor. How do you draw a new package when you have dimensions? The 3D modeler show grids, but little else. My first package is a 28 lead MLF part that is just under 6 mm per side. If I had a "monkey see, monkey do" procedure, I think I could work out how to do most any other package.

HPGL plotting / scaling
G'Day all, I'm been having trouble plotting schematics from KiCAD. I have a Roland DXY flat bed plotter which fits 11" x 17" paper and uses HPGL. First, whenever I plot a schematic, I have to specify an offset in order to fit on the paper without loosing about 2 inches on the bottom. The plotting dialog allows me to enter the offsets, and this works great so long as the natural size of the drawing is 11" x 17" or less. However, when I want to plot a drawing who's natural size is larger than 11" x 17" inches (which is often the case), and I check off the size that I want to plot in the plotting dialog, then I enter my offsets into the plotting dialog, they are accepted but then they appear to be ignored, as the drawing, in this case, will always be be plotted on the paper with an offset which looses about 2 inches of the drawing. This only happens when I'm scaling the drawing down to fit my paper. Oh yeah, and I've downloaded and built the latest KiCAD from source on Linux and I still have the problem. Anybody else have any experience like this? Is there a workaround? Maybe I'll have to open up the KiCAD source and have a look myself, I was hoping to avoid that. Or, does anyone know of an Open Source HPGL manipulating program that would allow me to apply offsets to an HPGL file? -- Regards, Mike Sharkey http://www.rmsharkey.com Bradford, Ontario CANADA
