G¡¯day, Jeff Miller here. I¡¯m making a small PWB with gnd plane on both sides using KICAD 5.1.9 Windows 10. I want text on the front side. I select TEXT and F.SilkS, write the text and all looks great. Then I switch to F.Cu and all the text is gone. I look at 3D Viewer and I see the text there. If I click don¡¯t show filled areas then I see the text I sent the board to OSHPARK, and the boards come back without text, but the component¡¯s, Q1, R1, etc are all there. I¡¯m not doing something right but I don¡¯t know what.
Help please, thanks, jeff

Sounds like you are not putting the text on the s-screen layer but on a
copper layer.

Jeff,
First off, welcome to Kicad! It's a great program, but sometimes its
a pain to learn the tricks. Also, I'd strongly recommend you upgrade
to the latest release (6.1.x) or at least goto 5.1.10 on Windows. All
the fixes, etc.

Second, can you post a copy of your board design to show the problem?
Or maybe some pictures of the board?

When you show only the F.silks layer, do you see all your text,
including the text for the components? That might be a hint to the
issue.

I'm trying to think back when I did my last board and I don't recall
switching to a specific layer to add text, I just used the text tool
and it came out just fine.

It might be helpful to watch some of the 5.1.x series videos which do
some example boards, they might help you here.

John

Easiest way for us to help is for you to post a copy of your project
files. If you 'Archive Project' you get a ZIP file you can post.

Thanks John. I missed out a step in the design flow and now all seems ok.

Great, glad to hear that. It might help others if you posted exactly
what you missed... just so others build on your experience. :-)
