Re: Components have specified ends
Hi Yes. Also when I come across this issue when routing a PCB, I go back to the schematic and rotate the component there. regards Jorge

Re: Components have specified ends
Are you trying to place a copper track from the end of one capacitor to another and KiCad won't let you make that connection? KiCad will only allow you to make connections between components that

Components have specified ends
I am having a? problem with laying out a simple PCB, using version 8.01 under Widows 11. The problem is that even resistors and capacitors have specified ends, and it seems impossible to overcome

Re: PWR_FLAG
Place one after the switch as well. You could also just ignore the warning. Reinier Op 12-4-2024 om 15:31 schreef John Woodgate:

Re: PWR_FLAG
Kicad doesn't know that switches have an "on" and and "off", so you have to place the power flag downstream of the switch. Regards, Robert. * Plain text email - safe, readable, inclusive. *

Hard to visualize what you are saying but the pin has to be defined as power or passive I think.

PWR_FLAG
I have attached PWR_FLAG labels to my battery input terminals, but I still get a 'not driven' violation on the positive rail after the on-off switch, which is shown in the ON position. Is this normal,

Re: Footprint for trimmer potentiometer
Thanks, Reinier. I am probably odd, but I do not like video instructions. I will study the KiCad manuals and see if I can find the 5 mm preset pot for sale by those suppliers.

Re: Footprint for trimmer potentiometer
Creating a footprint is very similar to "normal" pcb design. There are probably tons of youtube video that will show you how to do it if you are afraid of trying yourself.. Or just start with an

It's a 5 mm square preset. No room.

Part numbers are generally stamped into pots.

Re: Footprint for trimmer potentiometer
You may find some parts on a millimetre pitch (5 mm, 2 mm) rather than 'inches converted to millimetres' (i.e. 0.1 inch as 2.54 mm).
By CW · #23939 ·
Re: Footprint for trimmer potentiometer
I do use a digital slide-gauge to measure parts. But you mention? '0.1 inch': is there a new 'standard' pitch unit now?
By John Woodgate · #23938 ·
Re: Footprint for trimmer potentiometer
If they are older parts they are likely(?) to be on a 0.1 inch pitch maybe. That, and a pair of calipers, would make it easy to make a sufficiently good footprint, I'd suggest.

Thank you. I will study the creation process.

Re: Footprint for trimmer potentiometer
Thank you, but I don't think I can find the part number. I bought these parts quite a long time ago.

Re: Footprint for trimmer potentiometer
If you know the part number google search part number Kicad footprint. There are numerous websites which work with distributors, vendors, and so on to create symbols, footprints, and 3d models which
