Re: Footprint for trimmer potentiometer

You may find some parts on a millimetre pitch (5 mm, 2 mm) rather than
'inches converted to millimetres' (i.e. 0.1 inch as 2.54 mm).

I do use a digital slide-gauge to measure parts. But you mention? '0.1
inch': is there a new 'standard' pitch unit now?

If they are older parts they are likely(?) to be on a 0.1 inch pitch
maybe. That, and a pair of calipers, would make it easy to make a
sufficiently good footprint, I'd suggest.

Thank you, but I don't think I can find the part number. I bought these
parts quite a long time ago.

If you know the part number google search part number Kicad footprint.
There are numerous websites which work with distributors, vendors, and
so on to create symbols, footprints, and 3d models which you can
download and import.

Usually pots are generic so odds are very high a pre-existing example
is out there.

I rarely make printed boards, but I need to in this case. I am using
version 8.01. I have identified footprints for all of the components
except for a 1 kohm trimmer potentiometer. This has? 5.08 mm spacing
between the end pins and 5.08 mm spacing of the slider pin from the
line of the end pins. The footprint library seems to be based on the
user choosing parts from a very limited number of suppliers and
knowing the exact part number. I can see no 'generic' footprints at
all, but I seem to remember that earlier versions of KiCad had
'generic' footprints. Is the only solution to create a footprint?
