Not entirely true.? With the influx of new groups from the Yahoo shutdown they are requiring all transfers to be to a Premium group and pay for a year at $110.? After the first year you can change the group to a free one.? This is stated clearly on the transfer instructions page.

?

I haven't seen anything about this policy in regards to open source groups.?

Not sure what version of their service groups.io makes available for open-source projects, but kicad surely qualifies. Worth inquiring.

Also, groups.io is far superior to the yahoo groups product. I would enthusiastically recommend moving even if yahoo wasn¡¯t shutting down.

Yahoo Groups shutting down

Are the moderators of this group planning to move this group to another forum, such as groups.io?? Are the files going to be archived?? There are only a few days left to post new messages to this group, and all the files and photos will go away sometime in December.

I use ground pads with Through holes on top and I always number the overlapping holes/pads with the same number. As long as you don¡¯t mind electrically connecting pads they can have the same number. If it¡¯s just a mechanical hole you don¡¯t have to number it.

?

For example, a USB connector might have 4 lugs. These are on the same piece of metal shell.

?

This is how I currently work:

I number each lug on the footprint, and add all these 4 pins to the schematic symbol. Then I link those 4 schematic pins together with a wire. So the active pins on the USB receptacle are numbered 1..5, then I add (6,7,8,9) to represent the mounting lugs.

?

Can I save time by creating a footprint with 4 pins with same pin number? Then, the corresponding schematic symbol would have just one pin (e.g. numbered "shell").

Re: Introduction and a few questions

Andy Eskelson

It's worth checking the full mail headers. It's so easy to include
the recipient's address as well as the yahoo groups address and not notice
it. Something like that would explain why this happens sometimes.

Also some mail clients may add an image as inline data rather than
an attachment, especially if an image is simply pasted into the text. That
would confuse the system as well.

Mail is not designed to use this method, rather it's a function of the
mail client. It's worth remembering that you cannot rely on the
receiving mail client to render such messages. This may also
explain what happens.

I get loads of errors of the sort - your mail client does not display
html correctly ....

Yes, I know. My client does not render HTML. Not accepting HTML is a way
of preventing click phishing and so on

interested in even with the improvements to speed and so on.

To help overcome this, yahoo groups has a setting that most groups use,
which is that any attachments are stripped off of the email and placed
in a folder for the person sending the attachment.

You can find this folder from the files menu under the attachments sub

Use the web interface to see this.

It looks like that yahoo detected something as an attachment, as it's
created a folder, but there is nothing in it. So either the attachment
was dud or yahoo got confused (most likely)
