K3Y/0 Admin [email protected]
Welcome to the administration group for K3Y/0 volunteer operators.
I am happy that you are interested in volunteering to be one of the K3Y/0 operators, for the 2020 January K3Y/0 activities. The operator schedule is maintained on the SKCC Event Calendar at:
All times and dates are in UTC/GMT.
(For example, Friday 01:00 UTC would be Thursday evening local time in the US.)
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE!
1. The window for requesting time slots starts at 00:00 UTC on the 15th of December (UTC date). At that time, and onward, you may request time slots.
To make that request, follow the instructions given below.

2. It is hugely helpful to our regional coordinator, K3Y/0 (for 2020, that is Tomas, NW7US) and to the team of K3Y/0 operators if everyone would subscribe to our coordination email reflector that is set up on 开云体育. SEE BELOW FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON SIGNING UP!
When the coordinator sees that you have requested membership, he will okay it.
We use this email group to quickly communicate with each other so that if someone needs to bow out at the last minute for some reason, then others can see the message and rapidly offer assistance. And, if the coordinator misses something, the careful eyes of the team members will spot it and alert him!
If the coordinator has to track individual email addresses and the emails that would come in from each participant, and whatnot, it would take a lot longer to respond. With 开云体育 collecting all emails, having them all going to one place where they can quickly be read, then the coordinator can make the scheduling tasks that much quicker.
The invitation message that you can share:
Here is an invitation to all SKCC members with ham radio stations located in USA Region 10 (Region 0, callsign/0) to participate as volunteer K3Y/0 control stations. This is your chance at being a part of our putting K3Y/0 on the air for the K3Y special event. This special event takes place during January, each year. To join us, visit /g/k3y-0-ops/
For more specific information about the SKCC K3Y special event, refer to:

PLEASE SET THE SUBJECT TO SOMETHING LIKE THIS:
"REQUEST <CALLSIGN>"
Simply, set the topic/subject of the message or email to, "Request," such that your email looks something like the following:
FROM: (your email address)
SUBJECT: REQUEST KA0ABC
When emailing me, please use the format shown below, and remember that you must be sure that all days/times are in UTC. (For example, 00:01 UTC is one minute past 6 pm in the USA Central time zone: 18:01 Central Standard Time (CST). 18:00 CST is 00:00 UTC. Also, remember that 6 pm CST on Friday is 00:00 UTC on Saturday, in the Universal Time Coordinate.
Reference:
+ CST:
+ UTC:
Thus, in the BODY of the email/message, please list the times you are requesting EXACTLY in this format:
MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM HH:MM Call-Name-Two_Letter_State_Abrv-SKCC#
Example:
01/01/2019 00:00 00:59 NW7US-Tomas-NE-4758T
01/19/2019 04:00 04:29 NW7US-Tomas-NE-4758T
01/22/2019 06:30 06:59 NW7US-Tomas-NE-4758T
The essential thing is that you have the last column in this format because it is used to import your requested times into the calendar for official scheduling.
Conflicts with time slots are dealt with by discussion between contenders with my moderation.
5. SUBMITTING YOUR LOGS FOR PROCESSING INTO THE MASTER K3Y LOG
K3Y operators must provide a log of all their contacts. Your Coordinator may request an initial sample log from you in order to ensure that it is a suitable format.
Logs should be in ADIF format and should contain at least the following fields:
Date; Time; Callsign; Band; Mode; Name; RST Sent; RST Rcvd
Logs should be in ADIF format and should contain at least the following fields:
Date; Time; Callsign; Band; Mode; Name; RST Sent; RST Rcvd
The ADIF tags for these fields are:
QSO_DATE; TIME_ON; CALL; BAND; MODE; NAME; RST_SENT; RST_RCVD
You should send your log file to the K3Y/0 coordinator, preferably via the K3Y/0 operators' group email list <[email protected]> as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours of operating. This will get your contacts into the master log with minimum delay and will reduce the number of inquiries that must be handled by Coordinators from members who are anxious to confirm their stats.

Again, it is preferred that you submit your log by creating an email with the log file attached, to the address <[email protected]>, with a subject something like, "NW7US 02-JAN 0100 to 0159 LOG #LogSubmission" - where NW7US is replaced by your call sign, and the date and time slot details are your schedule details for which the log file is being submitted.
Please name your log files in the following example format:
K3Y00-NW7US-NE-01.adi
- K3Y00 = your operating location area (K3Y00 with TWO zeros, for K3Y/0);
- NW7US = your callsign;
- NE = the state where you are operating from;
- 01 = sequential number (01, 02, etc), different for each of your log files.
Make sure to keep backup copies of your log files.
Once the log file is processed by K3Y/0, a reply will be issued. If no errors occurred, the response will likely include the hashtag, #LogSubmissionResults
This allows you to easily filter our messages and quickly zoom into the results.
All dates and times must be logged in UTC or GMT.
If you work another K3Y operator you should make sure to obtain and log their personal callsign. This will ensure that they receive personal credit in the K3Y Log and Stats for their contact with you. They should log you similarly. If you find you have made a mistake or omission in any of your submitted log entries please advise the K3Y/0 area Coordinator.
6. GET AND STUDY THE FOLLOWING:
I hope that by allowing you all to post here, you can see each other's requests, and work out any conflicts. I am going to wait a day before actually scheduling because I want everyone to have a chance to work out any disputes before I start entering times into the calendar.

I hope that is okay with everyone.
NOTE: Your operator guide is in the files section of the group here:
If there is an issue, please let me know. You can post the question or report the problem in this group, or by replying to this message.
I appreciate all of you and am excited that maybe Region 10 becomes number one, this year!
Thanks, and 73 for now.
