Fw: [TentecPHOENIX] Ice breaker
THIS IS FROM THE TENTEC GROUPS.IO A RESPONSE FROM MIKE DISHOP AT TEN TEC, 73, LLOYD N2KPC ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Mike -N8WFF via groups.io <steven.dishop@...> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 2, 2025 at 05:47:42 PM EDT Subject: Re: [TentecPHOENIX] Ice breaker Lee you are the first from the group as far as I know so thank you for breaking the ice. A word about receive specs. 67xx, K4, etc all use direct down conversion where the ADC is hooked direct to the antenna through the preselector. As there are only a handful of ADC good enough to do this job, most everyone is using the same ADC. Since other than the preselector and preamp, the ADC sets the performance numbers, all of the RX performance is very close on these radios. Where the difference comes in is in the circuits between the ADC and the antenna which we have optimized as good as can be done, I believe. So you are getting a top notch performer. On transmit, we think it might just be the cleanest ever put out by a commercial manufacturer. We really are aiming to please as many folks as we can. We made it as small as we could with the higest performance per dollar at the lowes cost we could do. I think you will all be happy with it and find it to be a solid value as all Ten Tecs are. I moved to Ten Tec¡¯s after a brief stint with Kenwoods (TS950SDX and TS570) which I felt had exceptional receive audio, but after moving into the Orions I never looked back and eventually bought the company. I¡¯d like to point out that it takes a lot of time to bring a radio like this Phoenix out. It is impossible to please everyone of course but we have tried to make it as appealing as we can to a broad audience. It may not hit everything you want 100% but if we hit 99% I¡¯ll take it. An A is an A, right? What it is important to recognize and what everyone must know that this radio is a foundation, a stepping stone to even greater radios. If we are successful with Phoenix, than in another two or three years we can bring out an even more exciting radio. The next plan might be the Omni 8 with even more powerful DSP and even more software features and possibly the Orion III which will really be something. But NONE of it happens without each of you supporting Ten Tec with the Phoenix. If you don¡¯t support this then there is no point in continuing with it. I¡¯ll just go make baubles and trinkets. Membership in Phoenix is going really well, but we aren¡¯t half way yet. I¡¯ve taken a lot of criticism from a lot of people over the years for my involvement with Ten Tec. NO one will ever know the hell I¡¯ve been through and how hard I¡¯ve pushed myself to save and resurrect this company especially with the Pandemic which even managed to ultimately put MFJ out of business. No one knows how it feels to be vilified when you are trying to do the right thing and to do something to help everyone in the hobby. It has made me question why I am sacrificing so much and killing myself to help people who don¡¯t appreciate what I¡¯m doing in any way, shape or form. It takes a lot of commitment and a lot of resolution to carry on. Thank God I¡¯m not a quitter and just to stubborn to roll over and die! The situation here was different than any other manufacturer because we were barely resurrected to life support when pandemic shut us down again. Not getting critical parts ever meant starting over from scratch, and it has taken FIVE years to do so! Imagine going 5 years without a paycheck and still paying all your bills. No one has a greater love for Ten Tec than me and no one has sacrificed more to keep it here than me. If you really love Ten Tec and if you can afford to do so, PLEASE join the Phoenix club and order one of these great little transceivers! Really it has taken me a long time but I kept my promise: TT is still open and you have your new transceiver. I¡¯ve gone as far as I can. Now it is up to you. Every person who buys a Phoenix makes the statement of wanting TT to stay in the ham business. When you buy another brand you are not really supporting anyone b

Your check-ins are appreciated. Dean (N2TNN) ran the 20-meter net. Dean had to deal with a tough band tonight as 20-meters was long and the propagation forecast for 20, 40 and 80 meters was poor. Despite the poor propagation prediction, Dean logged some stations new to the net on 20 and 40 meters. Thank you, Dean. Stan (W4AG), our NCS for 40 and 80 meters, did an excellent job as always. Stan logged a sizable number of stations despite the poor band predictions. Thank you, Stan. Tree trimmers arrived today ahead of schedule at my home and my antennas had to be taken down hurriedly. I was able to get a 20-meter antenna up after the net started and made a few calls, but I could not get on 40 and 80. Congratulations to Dave (N1CGP), Dan (KW4LQ) and Dean (N2TNN) who made all three bands tonight. Honorable mention goes to Ted (N8TJE), Mike (W3TS), Stan (W4AG), Bill (K8ZCT), Tony (VE3DWI), and George (W5GS) who made two bands. We appreciate the work of Rich (NA6F) who combines the SSB and CW Net Reports for the primary file. We thank Lloyd (N2KPC), our Ten-Tec Amateur Radio Net Manager. Thank you to our regular check-ins and to our new visitors whom we welcome to join us again. 73, Rich N0ENO

TenTec CW Net 20 Meters

Good evening, Twenty meters has been bad. The predictions were for "poor" today on 20 meters. However, the band has seemed to have improved within the last ten minutes, or so. I am staying on 20 meters in case anyone wants to try to check-in here. Dean (N2TNN) was headed to 40 meters. Stan (W4AG) should be on 80 meters. Thank you and 73, Rich N0ENO

Centurion Amp problem
I have a Ten Tec Centurion amp that had blown 3-500z tubes. I replaced the tubes with new ones, and I have noticed that my no load, idling grid current is 200 Milliamperes instead of about Zero. I have read in another website that a faulty QSK board may be the reason. Has anyone here experienced this or have any suggestions?

The file isn't that big. It last 15 minutes, so hopefully you have a loop/repeat option on your player. I just watched the file, and the lower left frame gets messed up after 1.5 minutes. I fixed it and will export another copy later. -- 73, Lloyd N2KPC TEN-TEC Amateur Radio Net Manager.
