Winkeyer USB PTT problem

Winkeyer USB with the updated chip at revision 31.02
?
I'm trying to use the Winkeyer USB output to control a 12VDC antenna relay.? Right now I'm just keying it manually, not from the PC.? With the PTT lead-in set to 10ms and the PTT tail set to 5 ms? (paddle hang set to 1.3 Word), and the keying speed around 25 wpm, it works for a while (a couple of T/R exchanges), then PTT starts following the keying without holding up.? If I hold the key to dots or dashes and send them for 15-20 seconds, that's when the problem occurs.? That's not something I would normally do, just discovered that the issue occurs when I do that.? After waiting for several seconds and hitting the key again, the PTT again holds up during the transmission as it should.
?
And, if I turn the speed pot up or down any amount, PTT no longer holds up but follows the keying.? Maybe there's something I'm not understanding about how to set it up, but I think I have everything right.? This happens in keyer mode Iambic A or Ultimatic.? Haven't tried it in other modes.? Ideas??

What is the spec on the relay you are driving? Current and voltage to keep it closed ?

It's a Totsu CX800, 160 ma., 12V.? No idea about the minimum current and voltage to keep it closed.? What's the max on current and voltage for the Winkeyer?

I misread the relay label - it's Totsu CX-600.

The SSRs in WKUSB are rated at 120 mA max, that could be the issue right there. You could verify with a milliampere meter. I suppose you could employ a driver stage with a more robust transistor. Be sure to include a back emf diode across the relay coil to soak up the reverse switching spike.

OK - problem solved.? I built a relay driver using a MPSA92 transistor (PNP).? It saturates at a base current of 3 ma. so that's all the Winkeyer has to key (at 13.8VDC).? No sign of failure with a few minutes of keying.? Thanks for the help.

Hello,

? ? I have a K44 CW keyboard doesn’t work properly. When I use my keyboard it sends three letters at a time. Is there somewhere I can send it to get repaired? Thank you
