Any ideas on what causes the F2 macro to send your call 328 times with one depression and totally embarrass the crap out of you in a pileup when the escape key won’t stop it?? I’ve recreated the macro database several times, changed keyboards, said 19 Hail Mary’s.? I’m out of ideas. ? Regards, ? Pat – KZ5J

I could not get my F2 function key to repeat, only sends the text once.
?
And for me, the DEL (Delete) keyboard key is what cancels the transmit buffer and goes back to Rx mode.? Not ESC.
?
But I am using the unit as stand-alone.? Not connected to a PC or other program.
?
Good Luck

Thanks Walt.? Next time the Winkeyer decides it wants to send my callsign 438 times without stopping I’ll try the Delete key rather than the Escape key. ? Thanks for the help.? Actually it shouldn’t be hanging up like that in the first place. ? Regards, ? Pat – KZ5J ?

Ok, WinKeyer USB. It always helps to have good information.
Winkeyer only works on a letter by letter basis, for it to repeat a sequence of letters, like a callsign, that sequence would have to be sent by the host application. A series of 328 callsigns (very hard to believe) would have to be sent continuously?by whatever application you are using. Is this something that you can duplicate or does it happen randomly? Does it ever happen when?you are not keying the radio ??

Hi Steve. ? - No, I can’t duplicate it.
- It just randomly happens.? Usually when I’m trying to work a DX station in a pileup.? The keyer just decides to got ape shit and repeatedly send out my call until I power off the rig or unplug the USB cable.? This is extremely embarrassing.
- At other times when your in a pile it will on send a ‘K’.? Hit the F-Key again and it will send ‘KZ’.? Hit the F-Key again and it will finally send KZ5J (the complete callsign).? By that time the DX station picks up someone else.

My best guess is that RF is getting into PC and causing problems. I would recommend looking at your grounding system. That’s most likely the root cause of these random events.

It’s a function of the application, nothing to do with WKUSB. The application picks up the hot key and translates it into a WK command. Steve K1EL?

What application are you using Pat?? You were asked but didn't answer that question.
Does the problem happen every time?
On every band?
What power level causes the problem?
If higher than 100 Watts, have you tried running barefoot or using a dummy load?
Can you measure common mode current on the coax and the USB connection to the WinKeyer?
How hard would it be to place the WinKeyer where you can disconnect the cable to the key input on the rig?

Sorry I missed the ACLog message, Pat.
I see you have multiple antennas.? Does it happen on all antennas?
What kind of multi-band dipole do you have?? OCF or fan?
Since the problem doesn't appear when running QRP, the most likely cause is RFI.
Check your ferrite chokes.? Ensure no cables cross each?other and are wound side-by-side.? Crossing cables will subtract, not add, from the total impedance.

I'd
avoid the "Guess a cause, see if it is the problem -- Rinse/repeat"
school of troubleshooting Pat in favor of the much older, "Isolate to
find the cause before attempting a fix" school. ? 1.? Does the
radio ever do this all by itself with the Winkey disconnected?? What
happens if the radio is running but producing zero or lowest possible
power?? What happens if radio is feeding a dummy load on a short
pigtail? 2.? Does it occur with just the radio, WK [no paddle]
connected? 3.? Does it occur with radio, WK, and paddle
connected? 4.? Does it occur with radio, WK, paddle connected and
WKDemo running? 5.? and you probably get the idea.? Problems are
a whole lot easier to fix if you know the cause in advance of beginning
the fixing. Many many years ago we used to get troubleshooting
help by finding the remains of a small fire in the corner of a chassis.?
Now days, we rarely see, or need to see, inside the boxes we use. Note:?
A separate ground rod can be a large hazard unless you follow the NEC
and bond it directly to the the earth electrode at your electrical
service entrance.? Pounding a rod into the ground also rarely cures RFI
issues.? They succumb much more often to bonding all chassis' [sometimes
hard to find on laptops] with heavy, short conductors.? All the ferrite
chokes in the world may not solve an RF-in-the-shack issue without the
bonding. 73,
