Saving Throttles
#jmrithrottle
All,
?
I'm frustrated with saving my throttles and trying to load them again when I restart the RPI. I keep getting a failed to load throttles message. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. The message locks things up and a reboot is needed.
?
Any hints on how to save throttles and bring them back on a reboot?
?
Thanks,
?

I have created a new throttle, saved the default layout, added engines to the layout, and saved the throttle layout. I've tried loading the throttle layout, and opening the default layout and merging the throttles. I tried every combination that I can see. I don't know about them being loaded too early. I've tried before and after the panel is loaded. Sometimes the throttles will load, but mostly not.

开云体育Alan, When you get the problem where the throttles don't load, go to menu item Help -> System Console? and then click the button "Copy to clipboard". Paste it in an email response so we can see what's going on. Daniel On 2024-09-16 16:01, Alan Sorum WL7CG

No joy. I'm using a RPI and when the throttle load fails, the console is locked up as well. All the individual throttles for each engine are saved, but I can't load them together as a group in the throttle layout. In the throttle prefs, you can save a single default layout, but not a group of them. I'm pretty well stuck on this.

I don't know if there is a specific set of steps to take in saving the throttles as a group and then loading them after the computer has been shutdown and restarted.

Hi;
?
Your approach seems to be good, I just tested it again here, no problem.
?
The symptom of your RPI freezing makes me think about an out of memory issue, if you have many throttles to be restored at once, with all of them containing some media (like large background pictures), it could overload your memory.
?
Some tests to be done :
?- start small, with maybe only 1 or 2 throttles in the throttle layout
?- do you have a swap enabled on your RPI system ?? "swapon -s" command
????? - if not create one?

Adding one engine at time helped narrow it down. The first glitch I found is when I added the third GP38 that was in a consist. It was setup through the Digitrax Control Station. Saved the list and it reloaded fine after eliminating the consist. I got to the very last car, a Jagerndorfer Railjet Control Car that has an ESU function decoder in it for lights. The saved throttles layout failed with this added to it.
?
Can this car be added to the throttle list or is the function decoder a problem??
?
Thanks for the suggestion, I now have seven engines that load on the throttles layout.

Allow me some time to reproduce the problem.
?
I guess there is a bug, any chance to get an output log?
?
Even if the system hangs, once crashed, after reboot, do not start JMRI and look for files named session.log and messages.log in your ~/.jmri/log folder (being on a rpi, I assume a linux path). If you can back both, it would help.
?
Thank you;

Lionel,

In the process of trying to save the output log, I saw some references to slots. I went to the slots monitor tab and estopped, cleared unused slots and refreshed the list. That was apparently the problem or the problem was in there somewhere.
?
I was able to save the throttles layout, reboot and reopen the file.

Thanks to everyone for all of the help. I thought I would just need to leave the computer on all the time. Hopefully this doesn't reoccur.?
