Load v. Empty #operationspro


 

I move many open loads: logs, lumber, gravel, vehicles, pipes, precast.? I have enough cars to have dedicated loaded and empty of each type and I'd rather not mess with moving the loads between sessions.? My problem is that JMRI flips the status of cars automatically when they are delivered.? So I end up with loaded cars at the gravel mine, pipe plant, etc. when I want MTY cars there.
Is there a way to designate some cars as permanently loaded/MTY?

Yes, you can control the load name for when a car is empty or loaded.? Use the RWE and RWL load name fields for the cars you want to prevent the load name change.

For example say you had a gondola with steel pipe that you always wanted the program to show as loaded.? Maybe you created a custom load of "Pipe", or maybe you just use the default "L" when the gondola is loaded.? Normally when the gondola is delivered the load status would change to "E".? Using the RWE load name field for gondola in the car's Set window, create a new custom load, type Empty, for the car, say something like "pipe", "l", "load", etc.? Now select the new RWE load you created and save.

You can use the "Set Cars" tool to modify a set of cars.? And you can if you wish create a custom load for all cars.? That would work if you only needed a simple load name like "load" or "empty" as a load name selection.

So Dan, are you saying that you move the cars (that are loaded) by hand back to the loading industry and would like to avoid this?? I am a bit confused about what you are after in regards to JMRI and its capabilities...?

?But what happens to the empty car when you spot it at the gravel mine?? Shouldn't it then become loaded, ready to ship out?

Or perhaps I am missing the idea completely...

Say you have a CSX hopper (an empty) #12345 and after spotting at the gravel mine, you now need the same car (number-wise) to be there loaded with gravel.? Do you want to just swap the actual car with a duplicate one (CSX #12345) that has a load of gravel, that maybe is glued into the hopper...?

I am going to need a bit more info to offer possible solutions...
