Locked DCC++ on old Mac Mini 10.5.8 #dccpp

I am new to JMRI and DCC++ and I am jut cutting my teeth on it. I received an old Mac Mini that can only run 10.5.8. I loaded JMRI version 2.14.1 and it runs but i did not see DCC++ in the list. Is there any way to use this computer with DCC++ or is it just not worth it??
Thanks of you input
Keith

Keith:

macOS 10.5.8 (PowerPC? G4) can't come to a Java version compatible with the newer JMRI versions that support DCC++... I just checked my now ancient PPC MacMini... Java 1.5... whoa how old is that?

Jim,

That's what I am finding out in my research. Well I guess I have a great door stop unless I can figure something else to do with it. Maybe a sound machine with yard sounds?

Have a great day!

Keith

Keith:

If you're willing to try something some of the older (but way newer than 10.5.8) 32 bit versions of Linux Mint are still out there for PPC. Mint 19.3 is current but not sure 32 bit for that. Everyone is giving up on 32 bit moving on to 64...

Still if a version works and you don't mind a little deep learning (Mint and it's Cinnamon GUI) this isn't too bad and help is on several forums and groups.

My Mini survives as long as my wonderful and as obsolete unsupported HP flat bed scanner survives... Why spend $$ for new software that might work when the machine on my net keeps on going?
