If the computer is not connected to
the internet it will work fine with no fear of "hostile"
activity.? The biggest issue is that as software is upgraded it
will not be compatible with your older OS.? So eventually you will
likely have to upgrade your machine.
You can download software updates using another computer and
transfer them to your layout computer using USB drives for added
safety.
Windows XP worked for many years after being dropped by Microsoft
and is still working today in many situations as long as the
hardware hasn't failed.
