Right. The "publicly" visible version of Java at Oracle is still 8 -- yes
Oracle has newer versions but it is "complicated" to get those newere versions
-- one has to dig deep into Oracle's Java site.
There are other sources of Java's JRE for MS-Windows and MacOSX, which are
easier to download and install.

You need at least Java 11. Many seem to now be using Java 17. Wonder if I
will need to upgrade from Java 11 to Java 17 when I update from JMRI 5.8 to
JMRI 5.10.
