Locked Re: Simple Build not performing correctly #operationspro

Dan,

You are correct that the build worked but not as I intended.? In my eyes, the problem was that there was a schedule to ship the cars at Elk Grove that couldn't be performed due to lack of room.

When the build is successful, you can see all the cars are assigned a destination, but in this case there was no destination.? This prevented cars being picked up from the train leaving Edgerton for El Grove.? As the user, I immediately knew that something was wrong and kept going over the schedule to see why it wasn't executing.

Then I looked at the detailed version of the build report and I found that the cars from Elk Grove couldn't move because there wasn't room for them at Elk Grove.? Again, I tried to figure out why my schedule for Elk Grove wasn't being processed (my assumption based on nothing in the location, basically believing that the schedule had been ignored due to some error on my part to create the schedule.

The very detailed version of the Build Report did provide the additional information that the cars at Elk Grove couldn't be moved because there was no destination to accept the loads.? That of course was the root cause of all of the problems with the build.

What I'm suggesting is a message at Elk Grove showing that the schedule move of the car couldn't be completed because there was no location that could accept that load.? That would flag where an error occurred and eliminate problems with the schedule (which I thought had been ignored due to some error on my part).

If the destination field at Elk Grove had the terminal message of the attempt (Could not find a track for (CIL 4331) at destination (Elk Grove)), there would be some indication of what actually happened and it would indicate that the schedule had processed.

I would still need to review the Build Report, but I would have an idea of what to look for.??

Maybe that doesn't make sense to everybody, but I know that I kept retrying the build and trying to figure out what changes I need to make to the schedule because I thought it had failed to process.

Am I making more sense?
