JMRI is running on a laptop and it id currently set up using one user profile for both decoder pro and panel pro. The laptop has two USB inputs so I can connect both USB interfaces at the same time but I will have two versions of the NCE power cabs running- the main track uses the old SB3a booster , which has s/w version 1.28d2 and the program track uses the original power cab socket which has s/w version 1.65. I suspect that the jumper settings for the USB interfaces may need to be different because of the different s/w versions. My main question is how to set up JMRI so that the loco roster can be used on both main track and program track without altering any hardware settings. Do I need to create a new separate profile and share the loco roster between the two profiles ? Also, will any changes to the loco roster be applied to both profiles automatically ?
In your case simply add a second connection to the existing profile you are using; Preferences->Connections->plus tab at top.

Set up the two connections with different names of your choice, different ports, different settings (SB3 & Power Cab) and different prefixes. I'd suggest "N" for the SB3 & "N2" for the Power Cab.

That setup will work well if you intend to have both layout and program track connected simultaneously.

If you only ever have one connected at a time, you should move your User Files (including roster) to a location outside your existing profile, see the following example;

Then use the Copy button at Preferences->Config Profiles to create a second profile. If you set up your User Files Location correctly, they should both be sharing the same User File (rosters, panels, etc.)
