Locked Re: Evaluation of 4.17.7 #ubuntu #arduino

Charles,

Just to be safe, I would make sure that /home/cmeo/.jmri and its contents are backed up.

  1. Rename /home/cmeo/JMRI to something like /home/cmeo/JMRI_4.16.
  2. Download and expand 4.17.7.

Now you can switch between the two versions by renaming the two different installs.

Charles,

Switching between versions is very easy when using Linux.

To provide a detailed answer, start JMRI using 4.16, go to "Help >> System Console", click on "Copy to clipboard" and paste the clipboard contents in a reply.?

Hi there,
I'm currently running 4.16 on ubuntu with JRE 1.8.201. I have dual monitors and see the window positioning and sizing issues which many others have reported.
I'd like to test 4.17.7 alongside what I have now now, which is apparently OK, but I'm not sure which files I'll need to copy from the current installation to make the new one work with what I have.
There are only decoder definitions at the moment, haven't done anything with layouts etc. because it's not finalised.

Can anyone point me at the relevant part of the docs or applicable forum answers, or name the files that I'll have to copy? Along with any internal changes to the files that might be needed?
I'd rather not re-do from scratch if I can avoid it. Nor do I want to clobber 4.16 just yet.
Thanks!
Charles
