What version of JMRI ?.? This old thread shows it was 4.12 in 2018
Most issues relating to defaults have been addressed in later versions of JMRI.? Best you update to 4.17.5 or await the next Production release 4.18.
I am currently on a PR3 and JMRI 4.17.5 and there are NO default issues to reported that I can reproduce.
