I have an C/I track that can hold 10 40' cars.? I have a train that goes from the C/I track to off layout storage and back to C/I track.??

7 cars on the C/I track. The train will build taking all 7 cars to off layout storage but will
only bring back 3 cars.the build report says more off layout cars cannot be put on the train because there is only room on the C/I track for 3 cars.
?Can't send (SOU 228) to C/I (Gn Interchange) due to rolling stock length 44 feet, available track space?
? ? 16 feet? ?
when actually there is 308 feet available because 7 cars were picked up on the outbound leg.
Suggestions?
