Hi Mark,? It sounds like you and I are on a similar path (although it seems like you didn't actually state what the problem is in your original post).? I'm a DCC greenhorn too and I am using a windows 7 laptop with jmri, a PR4 (properly connected to a programming track) and a Digitrax DCS51 controller and I'm starting with a walthers Proto EMD diesel with factory installed tsunami encoder. After wrangling with com port settings, java versions, jmri versions and the like, I was frustrated by repeated error messages (mostly 301). I decided to remove the computer and PR4 from the equation and went to using only the DCS51. Guess what? I still can't connect to the decoder and get a "d nr" message constantly. At that point I put a different loco on and have the same issue. I'm able to run the engines with the controller and all functions work but I just can't connect when attempting to program. I recently tried a 1k ohm resistor across the power on the programming track (as suggested on the soundtraxx forum) but to no avail.? The reason I'm posting this to your thread is that i want to mention it may not be a jmri issue. Nevertheless, I'd be super grateful to anyone who can help (as I'm sure you would be too).? I have downloaded the software and watched the 5 videos that the DCC Guy has posted at his website and other JMRI Decoder Pro videos where I can find them.? So, I have attempted programming new and older locomotives using decoder Pro.? When I have done so, I have used "Direct" as the mode.? To further give you information:? I'm using a separate Programming Track that I can use here at my computer.? The computer is hooked to the programming track via a Digitrax PR-4.? The lights on the PR-4 light up, when I plug in the USB cord and I also plug in its' power cord.? I don't have my computer in the basement where the layout is, so the separate programming track is how I have to do this. --
