Dave is correct - you do NOT need the 2.5 Sprog for programming - BUT - When doing installs on O Scale locos and then test running them the power from the Sprog 3 is a big help.

Last week I re-motored an O scale Challenger using a WOW 5 amp decoder. The extra "oomph" is a big help. Currently on the bench a brass O scale SD70ac with same size decoder.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I think from reading the various replies I¡¯ll have to bite the bullet ( or whatever the train analogy is) and buy the Sprog 3 with the 2.5 amp output. I inherited the one I have so I don¡¯t know how old it is. With sound decoders getting more and more complex, and using more power, pretty soon we¡¯re going to need small reactors to power stuff.
