Ron,
This problem typically occurs when there are invalid system names which cause sort failures which result in missing tables.
Go to Help >> System console and see if there are any errors.
If there are no clues on console, upload the panel xml file to ProblemsBeingWorkedOn and we can determine the actual problem.
