Geordie,
Thanks for those files. They tell me that:
1) Your Mac can see the NCE USB hardware - good.
2) The SiLabs driver is not loading - bad.
3) There is nothing you can do with JMRI until you resolve item 2 above. Don't even bother starting JMRI, it is a waste of time to do so until the item above is resolved.
Questions:
A) What Mac OS version are you running?
B) Have you followed the SiLabs driver troubleshooting instructions I gave you (see below).

The script is designed to run in a loop until you stop it with Control-C. It displays the last 10 devices that have appeared.
You need to watch that list of 10 while unplugging and replugging the USB device (leave 5-10 seconds between each).
If the computer can see the device in System Report and the list doesn't change and (in your case) you don't see a devices with a names something like cu.SLAB_USBtoUART and tty.SLAB_USBtoUART appearing disappearing, then the SiLabs driver is not loading. See examples below.
Hopefully you got the latest driver from < <>> and not the NCE website!
Since you haven't posted a JMRI Console Log, I don't know which Mac version you are running?
Have a look in /Library/Extensions (??G in Finder and paste it in) and delete any SiLabs files.
Also look in /System/Library/Extensions (??G in Finder and paste it in) and delete any SiLabs files.
Then reinstall latest driver from SiLabs site and reboot Mac.
