New again to me 89 restoration

Do you remember what thickness the needle shims are?

Ugh. Life got really busy the last year and a half but it's time to finish up a projects I've started before starting new ones. I got the wheels powder coated this week and today installed new valve stems, bearings, seals then finished assembling the wheels and installing them. It took way longer than I wish because it's been a year and a half since I took them apart and didn't remember how it all went back together right away. Installed new tires, balancing beads and then got them back on the bike. I can now move the bike around so we can get the paint done. She started right up and the rear wheel moves through the gears smoothly and now, on to paint.?

Well for those who want to know, Corbin is no longer making new seats for our bikes. ?No more seat pans. ?However, if you find a used Corbin, they will rebuild it. ?So while looking for a used Corbin seat, I found another 1989 PC with 34,500 miles, a Corbin seat, a Clearview windshield, OEM mudflap, OEM trunk light kit AND an OEM rear wing!!! I was told the bike runs and drives, leaks a little oil and has a bad clutch. ?After a little negotiating, I picked this bike up for $!000. ?I showed up and to my surprise, this bike fired up in the cold right away and idled perfectly. ?I drove the bike into the trailer. ?Upon inspection when I got home, the clutch master was empty and the brake fluid was almost black, so I rebuilt the clutch master and slave. ?I rebuilt the front brake master and calipers and replaced the front brake pads that were almost metal on metal. ?I changed engine oil and filter and finally rear gear fluid. ?Also included was the owners manual, complete tool kit, a service manual and a little info of previous maintenance. ?The tires are 3 years old and the battery is two. ?I dumped a can of seafoam and ethanol free gas into the tank and away I went on its first real test drive. ?After 15 miles, the bike was really running nice. ?I assume we got all the old gas out and the Seafoam was doing its thing. ?After 60 miles, I remember why I love these bikes. ?Yes, there was oil dripping out the back center of the bike. ?I assume its cam plugs so I have a set of those to replace this winter. ?I ordered a VT1100 rear end off of eBay to see if I liked it. ?I installed it last night and took a ride. ?I think this is going to be one of my favorite modifications. ?I do a lot of highway miles and it's running now in the rpm range that I feel it should be but more miles will be the final determination. ?If I don't like it, I can have the old one swapped back in in about 45 minutes. ?
?
The plan for this bike is to swap off the goodies off this bike with my bike which is now just down to paint on its full restoration. ?This bike will get a nice restoration as well but not quite to the extent of my other bike. ?I haven't decided whether or not I'm keeping this bike when both are done or if I will sell it and fund some other goofy restoration project. ?We will see.
