Sharing via Notes.app

My computer: ?2020 iMac, SSD, macOS 13.4:

Go to Notes.app, select a note, click on the share icon and I am offered the choice of Mail, Messages, AirDrop.

Another senior: ?recent model iMac running macOS 13.4:
Go to Notes.app, select a note, click on the share icon and she is offered the choice of Messages amd AirDrop…but not Mail!!

Anyone know why this might be?

And before anyone asks, she does indeed use Apple’s Mail.app on her computer.

Also, when we went to the share icon and chose [Edit Extensions] Apple Mail was not among the choices offered.

Is there a More... option in that dropdown?

Nope; there is not. ?Darndest thing…just do not understand why she can’t email a note from within the Notes.app.

Assuming a restart made no difference, I can only suggest the old bodge of deleting the app's preferences (plist).

Thanks, Otto. ?I will have her try them.

Looks like you have to be using iCloud notes to share: ?

I’m thinking that may also mean you have to have an iCloud ?email account set up and synced to iCloud. ?Apple does not specifically say that, but seems it might be worth looking at the mail and iCloud settings. In my Extensions settings, Mail is shown but I can’t select or unselect it, it is just present. ?I do have iCloud mail set up.

Have her try this:

Go to a note.
Highlight (select) the part of the note that she wants to share.
Right-click or Control-click.
Choose Share.
Choose Mail.

Make sure that the note you are trying to share isn’t locked.

Have a look at:

Thanks Mary Ann, and Randy too.

I will ask her to attend my Zoom class tomorrow and we will check to see that she has an email account set up and synced to iCloud and check all her iCloud extensions [Side rant: ?I absolutely loathe the new System Setting that replaced System Preferences. ?I can never find anything I am looking for at first glance.]

I tried Randy’s suggestion on my iMac and his way works fine. ?And thanks also Randy to the link to the Apple article on Notes.

Promise to report back if she shows up at tomorrow’s session.

Reporting back as promised.

This did not work; [Mail] was not offered as a choice

Go to a note.
Highlight (select) the part of the note that she wants to share.
Right-click or Control-click.
Choose Share.
Choose Mail.

We also checked on these settings and everything is set up as it should be.

However, we did note when she opted for [Collaborate] instead of [Send Copy], a Gmail account was among the choices offered.

Aha! I wonder if Notes doesn’t support sending a copy to third-party email readers. An earlier reply suggested copying the content of a note and pasting it in an email to send a copy.

Yep, copying and pasting in an email would work, but I am trying to get Notes/Share to work as it should work and I just cannot dope out why Apple’s Mail appicon is not offered as a choice for her as it is for everyone else with a Mac.

IIRC, she is using the the latest and greatest macOS, which has had a number of issues in Mail. Sometimes, there are issues or apps that did not upgrade as well as they should. This sounds like a “bleeding edge” issue or bug. Call Apple. This might need a bug report and their attention to help others avoid this.

It is their job to “make it work as it should”, not yours. You and our members have covered the regular things, it is time to escalate it.

It is so rare that, with help from folks on this and other Groups, that I can’t solve problems they raise and it kills me to admit defeat….but that’s what I shall tell her to do.

It’s likely that she has Gmail set up as her default e-mail program.

Surely it can’t be that simple, and that it wasn’t checked before?

Full confession: ?I have using Macs since 1996, probably set up the very first one to use Mail.app as the default and never changed it…and therefore forgot that it was even possible to do so. ?

I’ll check on her settings next Tuesday, at a Zoom session, and report back.
