Eudora mail sorting
Fay Kelley
For one thing, whenever I opened a mailbox, it invariably decided that I wanted I'm using Eudora Pro 4.2. I can order my mail boxes by tapping the column heading to sort by that category; and to have it in reverse order, hold down the OPTION KEY while you tap the column heading and it will reverse the order within that category. Also, there are numerous settings determining when mail is opened automatically or manually. My personal experience was that I could manipulate my mail and folders more robustly with Eudora, but it really is a subjective decision best reached through experimentation. Fay ^. .^ |

Seeker didst proclaim:
maybe O.E. has so many features that it's worth putting up with all itsI love OE, though now I use Entourage, which is the same as OE and then some. I tried quite a few different mail clients before deciding on OE. The others, though they had some features I liked, mostly annoyed me with their interfaces. Frankly, I haven't really noticed many significant "idiosyncrancies" with OE. When I was using Windows, though, I used Eudora Pro (free version, with ads). The Windows version of OE was a joke, compared to the Mac version. For one thing, whenever I opened a mailbox, it invariably decided that I wanted to view the most recent message. Unfortunately, I prefer to read my mail from oldest to newest, especially my list mail, so that I can read the questions before I read the answers. -- Rik Osborne <rik@...> <> "I'm in love with a girl who doesn't even know I'm alive. Re: Internet Config Question
John S. Baltutis
From the Eudora Help -> Selecting a URL Helper
Selecting a URL Helper Application Any string of text that Eudora recognizes as a "hot link," also known as a URL (Uniform Resource Locator), is active. Active URLs in incoming Eudora messages are normally highlighted in blue text and blue underlining, and are often enclosed by left and right angle brackets, "< >". You normally double-click on a URL in an incoming message (or Command-click on it) to open the URL. This launches an Internet application that, for example, opens a World Wide Web location, transfers a file, performs a gopher search, performs a Ph, Finger, or LDAP query, etc. Typical URL prefixes include http, ftp, gopher, ph, finger, ldap, and more. To specify what Internet application to use when opening a particular type of URL, take these steps: 1. Open the incoming message containing the URL, or preview the message in the message preview pane, making sure the URL is visible in the pane. 2. Hold down the Option key and double-click on the URL in the message window or preview pane. A standard file dialog is displayed. 3. In the dialog, select the application you want to use for that type of URL. 4. Click Open. The selected application is opened and goes to that URL. From then on, when you select a URL of that type in a Eudora message, your selected application is automatically used: it opens and acts on the URL. A sample URL is <>, which a web browser would use to take you to QUALCOMM's main Eudora web page on the World Wide Web. If you hold down the Option key and double-click on such an http URL in a Eudora message, you can then choose the default browser (or other application) that you want Eudora to launch whenever you select that type of URL in an incoming message. (You select the URL, once again, by double-clicking or Command-clicking on it.) You wrote to the IOMUG list: Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2000 09:48:18 -0500 From: BrianS <kidgalahad9@...>> Subject: Internet Config Question Okay, so it's also a Eudora Pro question... I'm using iCab as my browser of choice. It is selected in Unternet Config. BBEdit goes to iCab automatically. However when I click on a link in an email (in Eudora), it opens and runs Navigator... :-( I looked through every setting in Eudora, and there are no areas dealing with "helper apps". AND, I've checked the setting which gives "full compliance with OT/PPP"...so, now what? Where else would there be a setting or Preference? Inside Navigator, itself? Thanks for your considerations. |
Apple Maintenance manuals

Not so!! You can get manuals at: <>
or at: <> You wrote to the IOMUG list: Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2000 00:58:30 +0000 From: Andrew Rodger <ara@...> Subject: Maintenance manuals A while ago, if you were clever/lucky, you could get Apple maintenance manuals in pdf format (not handbooks) by downloading them from the APPLE Europe ftp site. I got a couple (for old kit) which have proved invaluable. However, with the passage of time I find the need for a couple more but the old ftp address has come up with a blank. Obviously Apple are not interested in giving folk easy access to these things because they are meant for the official repair chaps but, for those of us who know how to use a soldering iron and how not to die from intimate struggles with a CRT, it seems a little Blairish to take them away. Does anyone know if they have been moved and, if so, where to? |

internal CD problems
cheshirekat
My "These Are Special Times" Celine Dion CD finally arrived today from
amazon.com. I plopped the CD into the tray and waited for the CD to start auto-playing. After several minutes had gone by, I checked the sound volume and everything appeared fine. Checked the QuickTime Settings and made sure "audio CD autoplay" was selected. Went to the desktop and saw that the audio CD wasn't mounted. Checked the extensions folder and saw that Audio CD Access, Foreign File Access, High Sierra Access, UDF Volume Access and Apple CD/DVD drivers were all installed. I installed a data CD which still did not appear mounted on the desktop. Apple System Profiler did not show anything at the SCSI address (#3) the CD should be at. So I had it scan the volumes again and this time it showed that the CD was there but not mounted. I manually ejected the CD manually with the CD drive button and inserted my new CD again. I then restarted the computer, hoping that maybe the CD would now mount since ASP did see that it was there. No Luck. I haven't changed anything on my system lately. I know the drive was functioning the previous weekend because I played Links LS 2000 and had one CD inserted in the internal CD and one in my external player. I haven't observed that the CD wasn't mounted because I usually use just the external player for data and game CDs since it is faster. The internal one I normally have used for audio CDs, except when I was playing Links LS because I didn't want to have to switch CDs frequently while playing. I can't think of anything else that would cause my CD drive to stop mounting audio and data CDs. I don't know if I'm missing a necessary CD extension or if re-installing QuickTime or some other software would help. I don't know of any other utility for mounting my CDs. The external one is mounted with Toast software that came with the drive but has never been setup to do anything with the internal CD player. I've only had the external CD drive since September or October. So. Anyone have any suggestions how to mount my CDs from my internal CD drive? This is the CD player that originally came with my 6400/200. I'm hoping it's not a dead drive and that I've just missed something that got corrupted. kat |
[CTA] Gap Hybrid CD
gwagner
The GAP is giving away a free CD for the Holidays. I was pleased to find
that it was a Mac/Windows hybrid CD. Given that the GAP CEO is on Apple's Board, I would hope so, but given Intuit's history, that is not a given. Since I would be the first to complain if it had NOT been available for the Macintosh, I think it is only fair to let them know how much we appreciate their support of the Macintosh. PowerPoint Web & PNG
Joe Varani
A separate issue from my last question deals with PowerPoint exporting
images when I try to export to a Web page. When I uncheck "use PNG" in the Save As preferences, all images are saved as GIFs. My photographs look terrible dithered. Is there a way to specify that I want photographs to be saved as JPEG or is everything always saved as GIF? If PNG is causing my other problems that I mentioned in my previous e-mail (see "PowerPoint Web Export") then I was thinking I could avoid using PNG. But images look terrible without it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. -Joe |
PowerPoint Web Export
Joe Varani
Hi I'm hoping someone working with Office 2001 can help me with an issue
I'm having with PowerPoint. I have a presentation that includes a photo on each slide. When I export to a Web page, I include support for Explorer and Navigator in the Save As preferences, and I allow PNG. When I export, I can open the file with Netscape and the PNG images display correctly. After I upload all of the files created by the presentation to the Web server via FTP, it doesn't work anymore. Netscape loads the presentation, but the PNG images are not loaded. There's a broken image icon that says "LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01" for every single image in the presentation. Why does Netscape load the image properly when the Web presentation is on my desktop but not when it's on a Web server? What is the work around? -Joe |
Re: New Entourage Question...
Brent Pennington
Correct me if I am wrong, but if I remember correctly, the original question

was how to get Entourage to automatically move to the next message after deleting the current message. I am using an IMAP connection, and my version of Entourage will move to the next message automatically after making these settings; In the mail and news preferences, set the default behavior to "After deleting of filing an open message" to open the next message. Then in the mail window, click on the header called Received so that the arrow is pointing up. From this point on, the messages will be listed in the order in which they were received and when the current message is deleted, Entourage will automatically open the next message. Maybe someone else can test this with a POP connection. Brent Pennington On 12/19/00 4:01 PM, "Allen Watson" <allenwatson@...> wrote:

O.E. vs Eudora
Seeker
Good Grief! I just downloaded and tried out the current version of
Outlook Express and trashed it a half-hour later. I must admit to having used either Eudora Lite or Eudora Pro (v3.1.3) ever since I got my first Mac six years ago. I haven't used Eudora Lite which, like E.O., is freeware for sometime; maybe O.E. has so many features that it's worth putting up with all its idiosyncrasies? If you have never tried Eudora Lite, maybe you ought to give it a spin Cheers, Seeker |
