Since I have not changed anything, I would like to try to find out what is causing the problem. Just going to iOS 16 without knowing what is wrong is a shot in the dark. |

iPhone plays dead
This is about an iPhone SE 2020; iOS 15.7.1
I have been using it for 2yrs. 4 months. It has been working fine. Today, for the 3rd time in a week the iPhone has become unresponsive. The only way I could get it going again was do a "hard re-boot." I am not sure if that is what it is called. The procedure is described here. I have changed NOTHING in many months. No new apps. No updating of apps. No updating nor upgrading of the OS. Nothing that I can think off has changed. The "Battery Health" in "Settings" reports "Maximum Capacity" = 87% and I have always had "Optimised Battery Charging" turned on. So. Does the Group wisdom have ideas of what is going on. BTW, yes, I have backed up the iPhone. Thanks, Steve |

Dictation Software for Mac

I just had an amazing experience using https://www.notta.ai/en which is an AI transcription service that can take an audio file and transcribe it to a text file. I had a fairly long (60 minutes) file of a telephone call recording (I live in NJ, which is one of 2 one-party states not requiring either disclosure or the 15 second tone if you are party to the conversation, although I did mention right up front that I was recording the call).? ??

So I submitted the .mp3 file to the service, which claims to us AI, and within about 30 seconds had an almost perfect text transcription file. The resulting text file was almost flawless.?

NEXT, considering the time saved, I had considered manually typing out the recorded phone call, I was tinkering with the idea of the reverse process of dictating to my computer vs typing for specific tasks.? A quick Google search revealed what I'd already forgotten with Apple's native dictation capacity https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/use-dictation-mh40584/mac built in to my Mac Studio running Ventura. I have not tried it, as I suspect a better third-part app may (or may not) exist.?

QUESTION: To those who use dictation on a regular basis, what's the best approach in terms of either using Apple's dictation or going with a third party app?
As for third-party, is there a de facto hands-down no-brainer that is considered the PhotoShop? of dictation?

开云体育Correct. The process was: reinstall the OS and then migrate apps and settings from a previous backup. The previous backup allows me to recover the preferences that had been changed.Paul

All I can say, Paul, after reading your dilemma, is welcome to Apple’s say to make the older equipment you like become obsolete so in time you either have to buy newer equipment of give up what you like. That is how I feel about my 6+ iPhone which still works fine but does not accept some newer apps because I cannot upgrade its system to a newer one. I cannot send out emails on my original roadrunner usual email systems even though I receive emails to them. Doesn’t work on my iPhone or my computer on Ventura.

I’ve had a Kensington trackball for many years. Love it. I had programed only two of the four buttons (Delete & Enter). After upgrading to Ventura, I noticed that the cursor was not moving as quickly as it should. The buttons, however worked properly as they always had. I opened the current Settings app for Kensington (KensingtonWorks) and tried to change the speed of the cursor. After some time of not being to figure out how to do that, without thinking, I pressed the Reset Settings button. This removed the button programing. The current software will not allow me to program the buttons with the commands that I like. After contacting Kensington, they told me that the software is not able to do this in the new Mac OS, Ventura.
So the thought that occurred to me was: Would reinstalling the OS from a backup bring back the preferences that were used to program the buttons? I asked Kensington tech support this question and they would not/could not give me an answer. I did copy and replace a .plist preference from the backup but that did not work. I don’t know where else to look. Is it possible that the preferences are stored in the device itself? Thanks, Paul |

Older MPB finally die?
I have kept this older MBP going and plugged in for a long time and used it to back up my iPhone and other things. All of a sudden it won’t start up. Makes a tweaking noise but remains dark. I did back it up in June to external HS so I haven’t lost everything.
I assume my HD in it is “Capoute?” I have tried to back up to external drive my iPhone 6+ using time machine and regardless of instructions I found I cannot figure it out how to do it. The instructions I don’t get. I may have figured it out once but still not sure it worked. Way to complicated. There is an app I can try but weather it will work on older iOS is probably doubtful.
