Fake?

Hello After looking at that only picture for a few minutes of this "new" radio from Icom I started to think it is a drawing rather than a picture... Anyone share the same idea? 73 Rod N1PXB

Fake?
2
Hello all, Here is why - There is no natural picture like shadows and shines - The picture is bright less - The scope meter shows a very high resolution...I think even on those modern digital cameras you could not get that level of resolution. - The writings of the display are way too small for a radio of its size. You could not read them if you were not facing the radio directly. Try it with your digicam. - The writings on the buttons and knobs are all blured..Why? if you can see the scope meter and its lines so well. - There is no perspective look on the knobs. They all look as if the picture was taken directly over them. ( I have a picture of a radio here that you can see clearly that should be some perspective view on those knobs, which would be like the knobs of the left should be pointing slightly to the left and the right VFO should be pointinh also slightly to the right. - There is only one picture available (It is hard and takes time to make different drawings os the same object) So I think: - It is a stolen sketch from Icom labs for a future new 706 - Or it isnt true at all. Someone with good drawing knowledge is only joking around. Has Icom said anything about it? Well ,for now I would like it to be true, since it sounds like a nice radio! 73, Rod N1PXB

No rumor
I contacted a friend "high up" in Icom's ad department and he said the rumors about a new rig 7000 are true but that there are still some details to be worked out before public announcement -- something with the specs. They are, however, working on an ad campaign for it.

Fake or Reality?
Ladies and Gentlemen, even if the long awaited and much discussed IC- 7000 turns out to be a hoax it's also been a lot of fun. At the very least ICOM has a pretty good idea regarding the features we want in the 706's replacement. Sort of a new twist on reverse engineering. Ken

I believe its real :-)
Why else would Yaesu be heavily discounting the 857 and the 957? 73, Frank Gi4NKB

Not my comment, don't shoot the messenger. If it's like most other products, many of the reps have no idea what it looks like. Tom NU4G

I grabbed this from a forum at www.eham.net: " 706 Prices Reply by K8NRA on March 19, 2005 Mail this to a friend! I emailed Icom for an update on the IC-7000 model. Here was the reply. Good Morning Bill- Thank you very much for your inquiry. Icom Incorporated is developing many new products to meet the requests and expectation of our customers. The model you had inquired is one of such models. Unfortunately, however, it is still too early to make any announcements on the specification, release timing and price etc, as such are still undecided. We will be announcing such details on our homepage, through dealers or magazines as soon as possible. We ask for your understanding in this situation and thank you in advanced for your enquiry and patience regarding information from us. Hello
Hello all in the group. Now that we have flogged the CAPs discussion to death and made one member feel very uncomfortable in the process; can we now PLEASE close the topic. I think the member in question now gets the drift. Also remember that we are all members of this group (I hope) to "help" and offer constructive discussion on a new and exciting radio we all "hope" will come to light. 73 de Rob VE4RRB Moderator

I have it on excellent authority that Icom Japan will announce the IC-7000, with detailed information, in the May issue of "CQ Ham Radio". We will make every effort to obtain an English-language summary of the announcement. Best 73, Adam, VA7OJ/AB4OJ Owner, Yahoo! ic7000 Group Scanned by WinProxy http://www.Ositis.com/

----- Original Message ----- From: Service To: 'tstrickland' Sent: Wednesday, March 30, 2005 1:15 PM Subject: RE: IC 7000 Dear Sir, We are aware of the rumors that are circulating the internet at present. These rumors are not accurate information. There will always be new equipment in development to replace existing equipment; release dates on these pieces of equipment will always be rumored on the internet. Until such time that the product is an actual working item, everything is speculation. When such an item is ready for release then all the Icom distributors will release information on there web pages respectfully. IC-7000 pricing / availability
7
Seems likely to me that the timing would coincide perfectly for an "unveiling" at Dayton. The US$1474 pricetag, if that is indeed what it will be in N.A., is a bit scary though. Albeit, the original 706 was up there when it first came out but going by todays pricing and in comparison to the cost of a new FT-857D at nearly half the price, I won't be lining up for an IC-7000. I was thinking US$1K-ish myself. 73 de Hugh VA3TO Adam Farson wrote: Ed Thierbach wrote:

IC-7000 pricing / availability; roofing filter
Hi Hugh, Actually, all receivers with an up-converting first mixer use one or more roofing filters which do not determine the receiver's ultimate selectivity. A roofing filter is defined as an IF filter immediately following a mixer. The purpose of the roofing filter is twofold: 1. To reject the image resulting from the mixing process. 2. To reduce the statistical likelihood that strong signals falling within the bandwidth of the RF preselector, but outside the bandwidth of selectivity-determining IF filters further down the receiver's IF chain, will overdrive the ADC and/or the IF stages preceding it. (In an analogue receiver, these signals can overload mixers and IF amplifiers downstream of the roofing filter, if the roofing filter passes them.) The roofing filter is not a selectivity-determining filter. It must be sufficiently wide to pass the entire TOBW of the widest emission the receiver is intended to process. In the Icom Pro series, both the 1st and 2nd mixer are followed by roofing filters. The filter centre frequencies are 64.455 MHz and 455 kHz respectively, and their -6 dB bandwidth is 15 kHz to pass FM. The IF-DSP filters determine the receiver's ultimate selectivity. Perhaps the most authoritative short article on roofing filters I have seen is one which my friend George W5YR (sadly, SK) contributed to my IC-756Pro/Pro2 User Review in 2002: http://www.qsl.net/ab4oj/icom/ic756pro_notes.html#roofing Another fine article on this topic, also authored by George: http://www.qsl.net/ab4oj/icom/dspfilter.html Cheers for now, 73, Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

FW: IC-7000

Here is some more information on IC-7000, from my contacts in Japan. It is, of course, preliminary and unconfirmed. 1) The model number will be IC-7000. 2) The Japanese domestic price will be 10,000 to 20,000 Yen higher than that of the IC-706MKIIG, i.e. 148,000 to 158,000 Japanese Yen (USD 1474). 3) ICOM will unveil the detailed specifications in the middle of April, and start delivery at the end of April or the beginning of May. 4) The LCD could be larger than the picture shown on the French site. 5) The IC-7000 will have TV picture receive capability, like the IC-R3. IC7000 bandwidth, modes and price
I guess that to avoid image frequency reception the IC-7000 will have a Xtal filter at 1st IF 64.455 MHz, as some other Icom rigs. This Xtal filter has 15KHz bandwith, so any mode this beauty can receive will have to pass that filter. It is long ago since I made ATV fully analogic in 430 MHz, and I dont know the TV modes used today. But anyway the 15KHz limit will apply in this rig. The IC-7400 (IC746 PRO) I am getting in a couple of days (monday) has RTTY reception, etc. So anything that can be made within the physical limits is possible. But the main point with the IC-7000 is to have state of the art technolgy in such small package, including UHF (IC- 7400 has not). I own some top class classic rigs, and they will not be scrapped at all because the IC-7400 is coming, same for the IC-7000. Maybe I will get one too when it is available. I make a lot of casual listening, with a simple wire as an antenna, and this little jewel and a small lead acid gel battery, can make the best possible receiver iever in its price/weight range. As the technology is coming from big brothers (IC746 pro.... and many) I hope the rig will be OK from the very beguinning. I will pay 1480 Euro for the IC-7400 (includes autotuner), the barebone 706 it is now 890 Euro (audio DSP, but no filters), FT-897D sells for 1000 Euro here, but 900E somewhere in Europe, and old trusty barebone TS-50 is about 900 Euro. So yourselves can guess the price range of the future IC7000. My IC7400 (746PRO) has had recently a price cut of 20% (it was close to 2000 Euro before). My guess for a max price for the IC7000 will be 1.100 Euro in Spain, that means about 1000 USD in USA large mail selling stores. Yes 1 Euro=1,3 USD, but so it is life and local markets. Due to small market size in Spain compared to USA, the price in Euro here it is usually 5 to 10% higher that the price in USA at large mail sellers, I dont know prices in local USA towns (Support your local dealer or it will disapear).
