Hi Paul
Just thinking, I would even consider a faulty board as long as its not burnt up. Mine burnt at the junction of Q501 and L531. There was a dry joint on L531 and it burnt a hole in the board. I would be able to get a working board out of the two of them. Just hoping
Many thanks, Reg

Hi Reg
so you are fault in VHF section, I'm studying the schematics !
Please, put here a photo with the burnt area so we can support
you with any idea to fix the PCB. In the past I fixed some PCBs
with burnt, often it's no possibile but sometimes can you do it.

Reg, Thank you. I have friends with this model radio so I'm trying to keep track of their history. It may help them in the near future. Thank you? Bob W4JFA?

Hi
the situation is very hard !
On solder side I think there is an opportunity but I have no idea
with the damage in other side !
You should to clean the other side well and to do some other
photos to understand if there is a space to fix ! If the area is
full of SMDs component, it's very hard to fix, the situation is
very very difficult.
Please, if you can of course, try to do other photos of other
side (side with coil) ; before clean well . Thanks

Hi Pasquale
I've spoken to the owner and he will clean the area around the coil and then take photos
We both have the flu and he'll do it as soon as hr feels better
Thank you very much for all your help and any other we can get
We would still like to find a replacement PA board if possible
Many thanks, 73, Reg

Hi Reg
Once the burnt area has been cleaned you can get an idea of ??how
to proceed. I'll tell you how I did it :
If there are no SMD components in the area (or even a few of
them) but only discrete ones, you can use a little rasp to make a
nice hole (hi) and remove the entire burned part of the PCB.
Then use a piece of copper-plated fiberglass on one side, make
holes to place the discrete components (the coil for example); the
copper side goes towards the drain of the mosfet so as to have a
strong and stable soldering; basically rebuild all the links that
were blown away.
It may seem unprofessional but I assure you that between the
abundant welds and the metal screen the job will also be well done
aesthetically and above all you will recover a radio that you
cannot use on VHF
Once you have made all the connections and verified the
connections, redo the bias and try everything again. With this
technique (shaping a piece of copper PCB in the hole) I repaired 2
boards, one of an ICOM-PW1 and a final stage of an ICOM-775, they
have never given more problems. It's an attempt you can make.
Let us know about your repair.
