IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker

Hi all
I recently acquired a second hand 7000 with what looks like a fault.
It powers on and all front panel controls seem to be ok but when i apply a signal on any band there is no rx indication and no sound from speaker even when squelch is off.
Any advice would be much appreiated
James

?Do a reset before anything else. Oh, what about VHF and UHF?

Hi Max
thanks for the reply
Did a memory clear on startup and still the same. no reception/sound on all bands including v/uhf

Just an audio pop on startup, screen/buttons all seem function ok

Some things to try;
?
Do you see any effect on the S meter bar graph when you rotate the mute/rf att knob.
?
Set the mute/rf att. and volume to the mid 12 o'clock position
?
Feed a modulated signal in with a sig gen. Do you see anything on the S bar graph?
?
Plug an ear phone in the front, then the back to see if any audio.
?

Full reset, not just memory reset.

Are you sure the RF Gain control is set correctly and you are not just at full squelch?? What is the current setting for the RF Gain / Squelch control?

?

Hi Geoff
Thanks for your response.?
Played around with squelch, rf gain and still no joy. No signal strength on s meter .
I don't have a mic yet so can't test tx yet.

Hi Rick
What's the procedure for full reset?
James?

Tried all variations of squelch and rf gain . Also if I enable voice announcements I don't get audio.
Without without earphones?

Speaker,
Try headphones in sockets one on side of head, one rear.
Try different modes perhaps as well.
Cheers

Hi Neil
Tried just about everything as you mentioned. Looks like a hardware issue . The only thing I haven't tried is a full reset?

Hi Rick
Yes that's pretty much what I did .
It reset everything back to defaults but still no Rx or audio?
Just dead?
?
Looks like I need to open it up and check all the regulators?
Thanks for your help?
James?

James, I'm not a fan of the shot gun approach to fault finding.

Start from a known point of trouble, in this case it's the audio output. Using the circuit schematic it would be my suggestion to start by checking the voltage rails on the active devices at that point working back "upstream". If you have a audio generator of any type, use a 0.1uf? to feed a signal into the inputs of the devices as you go back.

Hi Geoff
Yes I will take your approach. I think the audio output is accessable and a good place to start to check for supply voltage.

I got into this thread midstream.? Did you check the setting of the SQ/RF control and the setting of Set Mode 7?? Maybe someone else covered this but it may be something simple.

Hi Joe
Yes checked squelch and rf gain and associated menu settings
No joy so currently probing around the circuitry to see if any clues?

You need to check transmit. You said you had no mic so put the radio on CW, turn on break in, insert a plug into the key jack. With dummy load, do u get a carrier?

This will narrow it down to TX and/or RX.
