As I remember (and I could have this backwards) in digital the front mike on the head is muted so that your noise in the shack will not be transmitted, but the other mike jack is not.

The x00/x01 in decimal happen to be equivalent to their Hex representations in decimal, but all the values listed in these commands are in hex and are sent as 2 characters 00-FF. That's what the "x"

To me the manual is unclear as to what the actual byte code should be for a "(0=off, 1=ON)" statement.
The manual states that the "Data Area is /BCD code data for frequency or memory number

Pretty sure you have your codes confused, From my 7000 manual:
0A Memory to VFO
00 Frequency data
01 Mode data
And the end needs to be FD for end of data not FE
