Do you have a "MW" or "memory write" button? I can't look at a manual right now but it's common for Icom to have this button.
Some work this way... quick push of the MW button, the memory channel number blinks, turn knob to select the memory channel
you want, then press and hold the MW button until the radio "beeps"

The 7000 may not work that way but like I mentioned, that's been a common way for Icom to do it in the past.
