Alternator whine or ignition buzz? I've never had reports of ignition noise going out over the air. I get plenty when on receive. However, the IC7000 Noise Blanker always seems to do the trick in greatly reducing it. I have had reports of alternator whine when transmitting FM on 2M.? It's usually been much lower than voice so I never tried eliminating it. The cars have all been Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable. I currently drive a VW Passat and no alternator whine. I do get ignition noise but I simply punch the NB and its not a problem.?
Speaking of spark plug wires I have tried both shielding and ferrites and in both cases the car didn't run very well. I don't advise that. I helped another ham with alternator whine by installing a brute force line filter in the DC run to his rig. That made it barely perceptible. He started running the rig from the cigarette lighter and the whine was really bad. Next he ran 12v directly from the battery and the noise wasn't so bad. Adding the line filter nearly eliminated the alternator whine.?
Hope this helps. My IC7000 has been my mobile and portable rig exclusively since I bought it in 2007. I like how I can place the rig under the passenger seat and use my nifty cup holder mount for the control head. Works great.
