Mike live or dead depends on which? jack you are using.
I used the 6 pin jack with a Signalink USB.
One of the jacks for the mike leaves it hot and the other is muted.?
Right now I forget which one that would be.
The Data write up on page 116 of the manual says that when the PTT (pin 3 of the 6 pin DIN plug for data) is grounded the radio transmits and pin 6 of the mike is disconnected. I do not know if that is both the front panel jack or just the one on the rear of the radio.
I worked a lot of FT-8 with my IC-7000s before I sold them and never had to disconnect the mike set up this way.
