I've sold many things at hamfests over the years and have dealt with all kinds of buyers. I never was insulted by a low bid. I usually tell them something like "I'm packing up a 2PM. Come back at 1:45 and we can talk". If they try to browbeat me into the offer they make I usually start to raise my price until they get the hint to leave.
