The 7000 was perfect for mobile use. Having the head unit up high enough to be usable. The internals of the 7100 were/are a step in up in performance with the DSP but the head unit was an abomination (IMHO). The 705 has too large of a head unit for mobile use, again in my opinion. Yaesu is close to it with the 991A and the soon to be FT-710. A little bit large but doable but no remote head. ? It¡¯s a wait and see but I don¡¯t think, with the 905 in the pipe and the 705 hasn¡¯t been out for very long, that I¡¯ll hold my breath for the 7000 / 7001 replacement. I could be wrong! ?
