I realize the different way we feel about distance ...............as I said? " I am in Texas ".? The point I was making is to make the effort .?? This last weekend I burned a few hundred dollars of gas & drove several hours to spend the weekend with a group of old friends and make new ones at a Hamfest . ?? Do it several times each year .....................North , South , East ...........They are a little more scattered to the West here in Texas? ! ? ? ? ?? Chuck ? Wq5B?

20 miles in England might be as much as an hour or more auto trip (one way) and eat up $5 worth of petrol each way!? Folks in?countries other than the USA, Canada,?and Australia look at distances in a far different manner that we do!

I agree with find a club . Clubs all over the land are faltering with no or low attendance . Within each club is a mass of info & knowledge that is dying on the vine as there is no one to gather the harvest.? I realize I am in Texas , but I consider my twenty mile drive to my club meetings local. We have several driving 45 miles one way . Many years ago I lost my Elmer just as I was starting out . It is a double loss . My suggestion is find a replacement ......you may only need to drive the 20 mile a time or two til you make a local connection. ? ?? Chuck ? Wq5B

Ah well some of us are rugged individualists. Plus in my case my Elmer passed away and I am on my own. I do try to pay it forward though. ;-)

HI Alex
what a very well thought out description.
my question is why does this guy not join a local radio club as many guys here within a radio club would have set his new radio up for him and explained this to him first hand or he could still have read if off a RSGB tech site.

Understand first that I have the US model, and the UK one is different. Plus, I think that offsets are different in the countries. That said, there is a page in the US manual which covers "odd splits", which this looks like. Maybe. I found Scunthorpe, which looks to have an output of 433.125 and receives on 434.725 with a CTCSS tone of 88.5hz. This means you should program the 7K with 434.725 for the repeater wiith a normal (UK?) offset and a tone of 88.5. Is 1.6 K the normal split in the UK? If so, a UK 7K should automagically tune the split, and you will only need to set the tone. Here in the US, the normal split on 70CM is 5 Mhz! Otherwise, you will need to find the page in the manual that deals with repeater splits. Remember that you program your 7K with the repeater output, and when you transmit, it should show transmitting on the repeater's input frequency. The transmit tone does not show. For instance, a repeater here in my area, the Mt. Mitchell, is at 442.225. I program that in my 7K, and it automatically sets the split, which here is 5 meg, so I am transmitting on 447.225 when I key, which the display reflects. On the display, it says "dup+". Yours should say "dup-".

Keep trying, and with all due respect, RTFM is absolutely required for the 7K. See:
