You do not adjust the ALC. If you have your mic gain adjusted properly the ALC should never go into the red section on the readout. If it is going there then you have too much mic gain.
I can run the SSB power down from 100 watts to 5 watts and the ALC reading never changes.
But if I run the mic gain up it changes the ALC, and my audio drives it into the red, which is too high. I never come close to driving the ALC reading up past that orange line underneath the bar graph which reads the ALC. On my highest voice peak the ALC reading just barely hits the end of the orange line below the bar graph.
