Re: Howie on the Hill.......OFF TOPIC

Joanne:

We all know you are a lady and I would take you home to meet my "mother"

You are right about no insurance coverage...I read my policy and was shocked
that I was not covered for earth movements...even with earthquake
insurance..from what my neigbours are saying, the insurance companies do not
even return their calls...

Fortunately so far. I am on the right side of the street and now we have a
better ocean view....

Nearest major fault is at the bottom of this mountain...less than a mile
from here...California uses valleys caused by the earthquake fault lines to
build the Interstates and bridges.... its too dangerous to put buildings on
them...

..... In spite of all that land around here goes for about $4 - 6 MM per
acre....Go figure..

Why build.. the ocean view is great, especially if the houses in front of
you slide down the mountain.. the weather is fabulous 350 -360 days a year
(sunny 72F - 22C every day) and disasterous for about 5 -15 days... so you
forget easily...

They let me have a building permit for an 85' tower.. so it can't be that
bad.. and with the disasterous days (Floods, Fires, Earthquakes, Landslides)
its a great place to practice Ham Radio EMCOMM because we really are
needed...

Makes it easy to justify buying the IC-7000 as every vehicle should be
equiped with mobile HF, VHF and UHF communications for EMCOMM.

Howard, it looks like your neighbors loss is your gain. Why not greet
your
neighbors and thank them?
Tom, I don't think Howard has a death wish that big. An offer of some
sympathy and some cups of coffee might be worth it. There is NO hint
of a smidgen of insurance coverage for this sort of disaster unless
they paid really heavily for it. As to WHY they built there given the
risks - damifino. I shake my head at it. People build in old river
courses, on the edge of cliffs often overhanging the cliff, in the
Mississippi flood plain, and even right next to "The Big One's" fault
line (like feet away and in some cases straddling.) Humanity is quite
fascinating to watch if you can manage some detachment from the scene.
