Is meaningful participation in ibmpension group forever declining?
ibmpension group seems to be declining into oblivion. ?While the initial discussion of de-risking was interesting and valuable (thank you madinpok!), interest quickly died as a large segment of the membership decided to reminisce about the past. ?In an effort to refocus the group, the moderators cut off the historical discussion, which BTW seems reasonable to me since such is not the purpose of the group. ?But then, another group enthusiast reposted a March 24, 2014, with the publish date conveniently deleted, under the guise that the announcement was new news, so that the diehards could repeat everything they said way back when. ?I submitted a couple of posts reminded everyone of the original date of announcement. ? They, of course, were blocked by the moderators. ?This maneuvering is just another instance of how much the moderators and moderator enthusiasts continue to insult the intelligence of mainstream group participants. ?Do the moderators really believe that the participants in this group are so easily manipulated? |

Yes, for sure... it's a waste of time to compose well-researched posts that may conflict withcurrent attitude, values, and beliefs of aging female moderators.I feel there are many sad IBM retirees that sort of feed off each other.
I suspect some have physical or mental health issues that cost a lot to maintain and they probably also had no transferrable skills to a career after the IBM they hate, etc.---In ibmpensionissues@..., <zimowski@...> wrote : ibmpension group seems to be declining into oblivion.? |
I can't get a meaningful discussion started in any of the IBM groups. I have posted about something very insidious that IBM seems to be doing concerning the "Enhanced Annuity" that should be of vital interest to anyone under the PPA plan that is nearing retirement. All I have heard is crickets. Maybe it is just too complicated.

Jack, I think the answer to both of your questions is No. ?However, there is no doubt that the moderators and many of their ardent supporters are very emotional which detracts from the various discussions. ?Further, the moderators often apply their censorship rules in an unbalanced way, blocking posts they don't agree with while allowing posts they do agree with to pass on through, even for topics they categorize as falling outside the scope of the forum. ?And in back and forth discussions, the moderators often block posts that allow them or one of their ardent supporters to have the last word. ?In general, the discussion and interaction is very unbalanced as the moderators exert their bias into almost every discussion. ?This is all very counter to everything we as Americans believe in regarding the freedom to express one's views. ? ??

My blood pressure went way down when I decided to ignore most of the posters on the ibmpension group. madinpok is one of the few posters whose messages I take the time to read. The good news is that the majority of the posters on ibmpension that I have on "ignore" are not members here, and I hope it stays that way.

Hello swimplaps123, Unfortunately, Yahoo groups does not currently have such a setting to automatically ignore users as far as I know. I wish they did. They do have an "Ignore User" function on the Yahoo finance boards such as this one: although that board is a waste of anyone's time except the pump and dumpers. When I say ignore most of the posters on the ibmpension group, I mean that I just look at the Conversations list and just skip over any posts made by primos, trex, etc.
