Tracing paper and HP Laerjet 1020

I'm trying to produce masters for photo exposure boards using tracing paper (110gsm) through my Laserjet 1020; for some reason, the toner isn't fusing to the paper and is smearing across the paper. I've tried setting the printer to transparency mode, assuming it will increase the fuser temperature for the heavier media, but it's having little to no effect. Prints on regular 70gsm paper are perfect, so the printer appears to be OK. The cartridge is fairly recently installed and is a genuine HP one.

I use toner transfer paper bought on E-Bay with HP to great success. It can be yellow and from Orient.

sometimes the paper has a rough side. flip it over. then try. Otherwise the fuser is/maybe kaput...

Can you point to a web product for the tracing paper......

I've printed on all sorts of paper and even cooking parchment paper with LASERJET 1012

with surprising success.?

I'd like to see what paper you are trying to use there.

Yes the yellow or white papers are silicon coated and perform well. I am using them si?ce 4 years.

Is toner transfer dense enough for photo UV exposure, which is, I assume, the OP's method? There is no extra heat process of hot iron onto the board (which fuses the toner) with UV exposure.

I've always used ink jet on transparency using a two print stack, one printed at 180 degs. rotation

Toner on drafting paper or tracing paper has never worked for me.

Doesn't yellow block the UV?

For UV exposure, you have to go for transparencies with lase print.
?. you may print two such and carefully overlap to increase the darkness of black while UV is lit.

I use HP transparencies paper with success, there is also There is also?
3M PP2500 made for your purpose. Double up them with tape for dark black results.

I'm using Craft Essentials 110gsm tracing paper from HobbyCraft in the UK. I find tracing paper works well for UV exposure and I've had much more luck than with transparencies.
I did eventually get acceptable results by using the card setting in the driver, the heavy paper setting just wouldn't fuse it correctly.

Hi @all
I am using different paper to use UV or toner-transfer (hot and cold):

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Harry

Hi Martin.
I think that this is a general problem with all newer laser printers.
Under the constant pressure to save energy, new toners have been developed that fuse at lower temperatures.
My old printer could print nicely onto vinyl labels but my newer one, the toner adhesion is very poor and useless for the labels etc.
Frank.

I use genuine hp toner with great sucrose but with e bay orient transfer
Paper

Most laser printers - especially HP - have a setting that changes the amount of curl in the copy. Setting it for less curl turns down the fuser temperature, more curl raises the fuser temperature.

Try to make sure your tracing paper is "uncoated."

Try to degine the same paper as if.edium heavy? likt 110gsm.
The the heater temperature would increase.
