HP LJ2100 1200 DPI Driver?

Hello All,

Nice group..
For years I've been using the PCBfx foil product for making homebrew SMD PCBs. My printer, an HP LJ2100 supports 1200DPI prints. It is an excellent reliable PCB printer. However, when McNazi$oft forced everyone to upgrade from WinXP, HP chose to obsolete all the old printers by providing the so-called "Universal Driver" which does not support LJ2100 1200 DPI drivers for Vista (yech), Win7 (marginally ok), Win1010 (yech), etc? Aside from having to keep an old PC running XP around, does anyone know of a driver that supports the LJ2100 1200DPI printing mode?

Thanks in advance..

I had the same problem with a scanner - made me rather mad to say the least!

I got around it by installing "Windows XP Mode" on my Win7 system which
runs XP in a virtual machine.

Works a treat and I can scan a document and save it to the Win7 C:
drive.? It's worth a try with your printer and it's free!

Best of luck

Dave

Hello--

I'm in the process of setting up a new machine that will run Linux (Ubunto 18-something)
as a replacement for Windows 7 and an attempt to avoid getting sucked into the
Windows 10 vortex.

I'm wondering whether Linux will support your LJ1200? Take a look here...

...And open the "release notes here" page. I didn't see a specific mention of the LJ1200 but
another variant of that printer may be close enough. Also, someone with Linux experience
may be able to help.

Hey Thanks All!

All of your replies have suggested plausible work-arounds! The WinXP virtual mode is a slick one, and very likely will resolve the problem. The reason I consider this, is due to the software that must be used with the LJ2100. I have an older non-subscription version of CADsoft's EAGLE (v5.50) which I have used for many years. There are a few things that can't be done with it, but I also have tracked down the programming manual for the ULP interface, and quite frankly, with that language what can't be done?

Sorry about the ranting there. So I vectored over to McNazi$oft and downloaded the two programs (one of which was a bit hidden), and tonight when I return from chores, I'll install it let y'all know the out come.

Thanks guys for all the kewl replies...
