Solder paste storage

Hello all,

I have acquired from amazon. It came with five 19-gauge dispensing tips. I have used some of the paste today, dispensing it with one of the included tips. I will store the tube (in a refrigerator) for a few days or week or whatever until I need it again.

For storage, should I remove the dispensing tip and replace it with the plug that was originally on the tube? Or is it OK to store it with the dispensing tip affixed to the tube?

Thanks.

Steve

I leave the tip on. You could take it off but then you'd have to clean it out because after awhile the solder particles will migrate to the low side.?

I don't know if this will work for solder paste, but *might* be worth a try.....
I keep RTV silicone for many months by filling the cap with petrolium jelly
then screw on the cap.? The idea being to seal out air from every getting to
the silicone.? It also works for glue in a tube.

We always leave the tip on, it does dry up and then you need to change it, but it takes weeks or months in the fridge.
Usually you can still dispense the somewhat dried paste out of the tip and discard it before you start.
Some paste dries a lot faster than other, I found the Chipquick product to store well. It says it can even store at room temperature, but we still put it in the fridge.

Another thing I found is that those dispensing needles add a lot of friction, you need much less pressure if you cut them as short as possible with a dremel or something.
