Well, a bit nicer than that obviously, but you get the idea.
This way nothing would stick down needlessly below the objective.? I mean 8" WD is great anyway, but why obstruct the working space below when above there is just air?
With the Mantis I find myself bumping into the x8 lens quite a bit while using the (shorter) x4 magnification. I've even put an extender on the x4 to increase?the working distance, which makes them more similar in length, but still it's annoying sometimes to have that other lens in the way when it is not even in use.
Dunno if there is any bias in the slide to make it self lock against the weight of the head, but then I think it's still odd they designed it like that.

Now that is _nice_.
If they can offer all that for $500 I think I should reconsider my plan to look out for a used Zeiss or Leica with zoom.
ST I ended up calling the support people at AmScope and told them what I needed /wanted and ended up buying this one:
I also ordered the LED light ring.
I think I will be happy with the purchase.
