Anchoring Guy lines on a 33' Telescopic Mast for Hexbeam
12
I am ready to install my hex beam antenna. I have my Telescopic 33' mast attached and supported behind my 17x9x9 shed. (Picture attached) The first section is properly secured to the back of the shed. I am going to guy it 4 ways and have purchased the proper Mastrant rope and the required thimbles and line grips. I will use their site instructions for setting it up. I just want some ideas for the actual grounding of the guy wires (four sets at four levels of the mast) 10' and 15' away from the base of the mast (if I remember right from the Mastant site). I have seen 4x4x8s sunk two feet in concrete as a solution. Are there other ways I am not aware of for anchoring the ends of the guying ropes? Anyone with a similar set up? Pictures appreciated! 73 de KC1FUU Jon

TVI
4
My KIO Hex is up at 60 Ft and works great. Tower is approx. 20 Ft. behind my shack. No TVI problems when running 100 Watts, BUT WHEN RUNNING 500W and up and pointing North (basically right over my shack),TV blacks out completely, this happens ONLY ON 20 M ! If I rotate antenna to East/West or South no TVI. I am on Optic Cable for TV. I tried a Choke/Balun Mix 43 as well Mix 31 with no improvement. I also have Toroid beads on Coax at Hex up top. I purchased 20 snap on 43 mix which is on every cable behind TV, and on Coax right behind my rig. My previous beam was a Six Element Wilson Tri Bander and when running 1KW no TVI whatsoever. Does anyone have a comment? 73 de VA7LP Lars

KIO HexBeam
Kudos to the KIO Hexbeam. Its been in the air 8 years. We've just had a Category 2 tropical cyclone go through Brisbane. I had lowered it to about 15ft above ground. Thats as low as I can on the mast it is on. The house shook with the cyclone. I was expecting it to be destroyed by morning. How surprised I was when it was intact and no damage. Back up to its 10m spot on the top of the mast. On the analyzer yesterday the frequencies had changed slightly putting up the swr, but today it has gone back to normal. Probably needed drying out. Certainly happy with the KIO hex.

Why did you guys not tell me about this antenna before????

I FINALLY got my Hex in the air (K4KIO) but it is at 11 ft (waiting to finish pushing the mast up to about 30' when the below zero temps leave Kansas City). I am LOVING it. It has played beyond my expectations, so I am going to work this one until the cows come home...hihi Chuck K0XM

Crank up mast for hexbeam.
9
I have decided to use a crank up mast for my hexbeam and have been searching various manufacturers offerings. I'm looking for total height of 30 to 40 feet with a winch or electric motor drive. Prefer it on a small footprint trailer to move it around my small yard. Any one out there using something like that for their hexbeam? Thanks, W4DL Mike in EL96wf

Possible Hex lock build
19
I'm wondering if there is any interest in Hex-Lock tilt overs for hex beams. Or something similar to a hex-lock. It works exactly the same using the same materials. Does anyone know or remember what the he-locks cost? We intend to trying not to put a sky high price on them. Just trying to see if anyone is interested.

Four-Element Hexbeam?
14
Here's a thought: What is the theoretic feasibility of adding another set of six spreader arms to a hex beam to support directors and an additional reflector to convert it from two-element to four-element? From a performance standpoint, as opposed to structural, would the additional gain and front-to-back performance warrant investigation? ChatGPT provided this: A four-element configuration can potentially increase its forward gain. In general, each additional element in a Yagi-style antenna can provide an incremental gain of approximately 1 to 1.5 dB. Therefore, transitioning from a two-element to a four-element design might yield a total gain increase in the range of 2 to 3 dB. Wind exposure

Hi all, based on your experience, what is the best side of Hexbeam antenna to expose to wind to offer less resistance? If the wind is blowing from nord, should I point my rotator to nord? Thanks and 73 Andrea, iz2lsc

Cable ties on centre post ?
6
A few users of the G3TXQ hexbeam use cable ties to strengthen where the wire elements attatch to the centre post to reduce the possibility of the the wire splitting due to constant movement . Anyone here use them on there hexbeam ?

Traifee parts
4
Hello, I'm new to the group. I've perused some of the older posts but didn't find anything with regard to my questions... I have a Traiffe hexbeam HX5B and would like to replace the wire elements with the same type of wire and end connections. . I wondered if anyone has dome it and where did you get the parts? I also have one cracked wire element guide that needs to be replaced and I'd like to replace it with one like the original. I've searched around the internet but cannot find anything like it. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places. I'm looking forward to reading your suggestions! 73, Rich WN6A

Traffie parts
2
Just be aware the Traffie Hexbeam is a different design with different dimensions. Some parts will work well others will have to be modified. There is a nice comparison here: https://www.hex-beam.com/description/ I used to have a Traffie, I wish I had either one now ? 73, Joe kk0sd

Fiberglass Problems

I have been having problems with the 1/2" spreader section breaking at the point they enter the middle tube. Anyone else having this problem? I am not using any clamps and all dimensions for this beam are correct. Joe N7QPP

Traffie HEX-PAC Portable Hexbeam
*** SOLD *** After much contemplation, I've decided to sell my HexPAC. This antenna was designed and sold by Mike Traffie, the inventor of the Hexbeam. It's a HEX-PAC portable Hexbeam antenna with the optional compact, high quality custom carry bag made of heavy-duty Condura canvas. I haven't used it in six years, so it's time for it to go to a new owner. It includes radial wires for 6m, 10m, 12m, 15m, 17m, and 20m. Only the 20m radial was used, so all of the other band radials are brand new. Very few of these were manufactured, so they're rarely for sale. I paid $1,500. Will sell for $1,000 / OBO plus $40 for UPS Ground shipping in CONUS. PayPal preferred.

New KIO hex but high SWR
5
Hi All! Good news: I have been running my KIO-made hex at 1 m above ground. My first QSO was Belarus 579 from Alberta! And that looking into a metal garden shed with tower sections all over the yard! The SWR was on good on all bands, under 1.5 most places. No rotation, so the f/b is unknown. Bad news: Today I finally got the hexbeam up on the roof of the garage - temporary winter resting place, about 26 ft - 8 metres high and in the clear. BUT... the SWR has climbed to over 2.5 to 3:1 on all bands. I have checked all cables to be ok. The SWR is high even measured 1 m from the hex using the MFJ-259. Also good continuity from each side of the center post to the coax with no shorts. My only guess is that my balun is marginal - only 4 snap on beads. Any help as to what is happening would be appreciated... cold and windy up here on the roof, hi! Thanks, Peter VE6KK

K4KIO Hexbeam and Smaller spreaders
24
How gang well I finally have my KIO hexbeam put together and noticed that the 20 m spreader doesn’t necessarily fit around the beam. It appears that the wire assembly is too long based on my spreaders. I have the older KIO hex with the square center and purchase the fiberglass from the recommended supplier sometime ago. After completing the installation, I have 20 m 17 m 15 m 12 m and 10 m installed, but the 20 m wire is way too long. Even after adjusting the spreader stops for the 20 m wire all the way out on the spreaders the beam wire still continues to be too long. Has anybody had any experience with this and any tips or solutions to fix it? The spreaders are the 46.5” in length. Jason, Wv3v

Non-Resonant Hexbeam?
24
This may be completely out-to-lunch, but has anyone considered/built a non-resonant heaxbeam with a closely coupled tuner? I am extremely space limited, so I can't even put up a full size 20m hexbeam, but I definitely want to get on 20m and possibly 40m with the hex. I was thinking of basically having a tuner very close to the hex feedpoint (ladder line coupled?). I'm sure I'll lose efficiency, but will it work? Is it even worth it? Thanks in advance, 73, Greg, KM5GT
